Say which turn it is in the log

Postby PsyDev on Wed Mar 16, 2011 2:02 am

Concise description:
When I'm checking the chat log, I want to see on what turn something was said in chat, not just the date.
When checking the game log, I also want to know on what turns certain things happened. It's harder to figure this out just looking at the current chat log. For ease of reading the game history, I would like each entry to say what turn it happened on. It seems more relevant than the time and day.

Specifics/Details:
Sometimes it's important to look back on a log and say "on turn 23 you agreed to a peace treaty for 3 turns, but then you attacked on turn 25!". It's much harder to do as it stands right now.
Currently the game log says:
2011-03-16 06:43:53 -

It should say:
2011-03-16 06:43:53 (25) -
The (25) could also come before the date instead.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
Make it easier to look at the progress of things. Make users happy by improving UI.

I think he wants that message inserted into game chat, or having a (#) beside the comment indicating which round it was on. People could match up the timestamps from the round messages to the chat messages, but it shouldn't be too hard to set themup automatically.

Yes, the most important feature would be the game chat having the turn number indicated on it. It saves a lot of hassle.

So how about it? Is it an acceptable suggestion?

I certainly see no reason why it shouldn't be done, and it would be rather convenient. I don't like doing +1 posts, but this is a good suggestion.

If you mean, "did I submit my suggestion correctly?", then yes. But if you mean, "is this immediately going on lack's to do list?", then no.

yes! I want thhis iimplemented!

I really don't think it'd be that hard to do programming wise, but then again i don't know the inner workings of CC. But I really think the coding for this should be easy and it would be a welcome update to CC.

In the "my games" screen you can see what round it is... why would you want to see it again in the log? Does Lack also needs to draw it out for ya? Do you need a soundeffect?
Sorry for being an ass but this is a nice "check check dubble check option" not that much needed.

this doesn't add much to the playing experience, more likely cluttering the game chat.

& there are so many add-ons that could be integrated.

I dont mind the suggestion, it could actually make the log much better readable, after all some attacks or bonussess take up a lot of room. I am wondering about chatlines though.. if i post a message it will now be a few characters shorter, and there is even more clutter...
if it could be refrained to the chatlog, and be confined to the gamelog I'd support this.

Personally I don't really see that much of a benefit - the timestamps are available and for the most part they are worth looking at anyway since you'll often need to look at them anyway to see if chat was posted before or after a person took their turn.

Either way though, my gut feel is that this is far more likely to be implemented, or at least far quicker, as an enhancement to one of the existing add-ons - possibly BOB, or otherwise one of the gamechat apps.

I came to this sub-forum to request the same thing. It would be a nice perk not to have to compare time-stamps to figure out when your buddy said what or when "random-player" asks for mercy/lieniancy/quick-death.

Yes, it would add a bit more text, but in this case I weigh the benefit over that small problem.

Team snapshots? I don't think this will hurt that at all. It'll probably add like 3 to 4 more characters to the date time stamp to the left of each comment, which seriously doesn't add any more clutter. I mean, my username would take up more space than this!

01-01-2012 = 10 characters, add timestamp another 5. ad spaces. and it might add up to 20...
20 means a fair few maps will NOT be shown

This doesn't make sense. Explain.
It'll only add like 3 to 4 extra characters, for maybe (3) or (17) depending on how long the game lasts.

Or the round timestamp could just be like R3 or R17, and the date could be shortened to 01-01-12.

y2k concerned data storage and computation. The way the data is displayed is unrelated.
