Thanks denominator for those good counter arguments of why this game doesn't totally replicate the board game we all know (I wouldn't have thought of those).

Let's take a scenario, e.g. Middle Ages, where I have 4 cards (one of which is my palace and might have to be traded if I win a 5th card of the wrong colour). Do you really expect me to win another card? Or should I just sit out the rest of the game and not attack anything?

Using Middle Ages is an extreme example, but it can apply to many other scenarios (e.g. one's own castle in Feudal, or a territory within a held bonus). It's a crippling thing to have been awarded cards that are so detrimental that one doesn't want to cash them. Thus it's pretty cruel to deprive a player of the one means he has of staying competitive in the game - and that only means is by attacking and timing out.

Deliberate timing out to save one's skin and stay in the game (coz we all play to win I assume) certainly isn't as cheap as farming for points or medals.

while i agree with ljex sentiment, i feel that this is an extremely valid point. what needs to be decided is, is this something that needs to be accepted and planned for prior to joining the game?

Surely if you got your own castle as your 2nd card, you made the choice to get two other cards, hence get 'stuck' in that situation. You therefore have an advantage over the poor sod who got his own castle as the 5th card and has no other choice than to bomb his own self.

Some would say, that it is your solemn duty to bomb your own self because it is the fair thing to do considering those that get that unluckiness on their 5th card, and dont get the choice of whether or not they should choose the loophole of timing out.

if you make timing out illegal, then it levels the playing field when comparing those two specific scenarios...... for instance.

just my two drunken pennies :P

Card or timeout is like the double-turn that used to be part of one game setting.

Eventually CC saw they had to change things, but before they did: there were those who thought ensuring that double-turn was tacky at best, while others saw it as just part of the game's strategy.

But, CC established a precedent when they made that change they made, to eliminate the possibility for that questionable strategy; the precedent set is: players shouldn't try to bypass the intended flow of the game just because it's to their benefit.

Eventually, CC admin will recognize that the timing out without a card is like the double-turn: an opportunity that they should reprogram to eliminate.

Coding that asks at beginning of the turn, "Did player conquer something last turn? If yes go to: Did player take card? If yes, go to play. If no, go to take card, then play.

With so many wars going on, it is tough to make it through them all. Any updates on how some of the wars are looking?

Too early to say I'd guess. In about a week a clearer picture will emerge.

LoW took first blood and with that game cleared, we were able to send the Tiebreaker quads for OSA to fill when they're ready. Most of the other battles look like they could still go either way.

Nothing interesting in G1 vs DYN yet. All quads are active and most games seem more or less equal right now.

This thread always gets slow when challenges get under way. Maybe I should make periodic messages and intriguing questions to keep people coming here and discussing

Maybe some "predict the winners" challenge?

Or making spreads for every game and making a challenge to see who gets more results right ("cover the spread" or "not cover the spread"). Or just ask people to pick results (not only winner, but number of games won) and see who got closer after the Cup is over?

That only works before challenges actually start, though. It doesn't create more discussion during challenges.

Is that changed in any level since you're now part of another clan?

I was part of Empire for a long time and am very close with those guys. I think one of them will probably still help if I get busy, most likely [player]TheSpaceCowboy[/player]. But I may recruit some help from a level minded person in TOFU if I need it.
