without getting too political for a more science related thread (though the topics certainly never have to be mutually exclusive) anyone who is more worried about a terrorist attack than long term environmental damage...and doesnt live in say NYC, LA, Chicago, London, Paris, Tokyo...etc either has a gigantic heart for people in those cities or needs to realize they probably are never going to be attacked.

Im not saying we shouldnt worry about the potential fall out from such an attack, because yes they are certainly very serious events and things that can be planned for...such as the 2 billion dollar one time spending shot to vastly secure US ports that never happened. Along with everyone else, i am stunned and shocked by the terrible loss of life that is a result of such stupid actions....but at the same time i think its important to realize the average person cant control a whole lot as to whether or not a terrorist attack is going to happen....but you can do a whole lot to try and be a conspicous consumer, more ecofriendly human being. Yes, i cant really know what my effects on this planet will be long after im gone anymore than i can predict a terrorist attack...but at least i can be active in doing something about it.

Just a bit of friendly advice...when you worry abou things in life that our vastly out of our control...you only end up fearing things that you have little need to fear (like my mom fearing every arab american) and you let things you cant control cloud your every day judgement....something much more important to your day to day life than whether or not there will be a terrible calamity that befalls mankind.

End rant...my apologies.

I was never saying that dams are evil and should be destroyed. What I was actually saying is that a rising water table is not a good thing...

when you got a low water table like here in the uk,australia, parts of america and africa, then it be a very good thing to do to get the under ground water table up that be the added benifit of damming up rivers and streams

They'd merge into a supermassive black hole.

What the hell else would they do, bounce off one another? I could understand your thinking, usually when two planets collide they go about their usual course (a little bit off but you know), but these are much more gravetical (is that a word?) so they'd suck one another up and become twice as powerful.

Also, apparently several seconds on the event horizon of a black hole is the equivalent of fifty to sixty years here.

hmmmmmmm...... interesting thought. I actually did a speech on black holes, although I can't remember, but I think I researched that black holes can't crash into each other. The suns that they would've been b4 couldn't have been close enough together.

Ya, but pink holes doesn't sound as menacing as black holes. in my opinion, it's like calling the event horizon the horizon of ponies.

No, they can. There are actually nomadic black holes, believe it or not. So two holes can collide. Luckily the farthest ones a re very far away, I think it would be over 200 years before anybody saw it from here.

Wow. Now that would be a sight to see. 2 black holes colliding. Of course, You wouldn't be able really see anything.............. But I've always wondered, if you went through a black hole and lived, what would be on the other side?

You'd b sucked into a black hole. There is still some speculation as to whether a black hole is a hyperbola, meaning it has an entry and an exit, or a ellipsis, meaning it is a single entry. A hyperbola would prove the existence of white hole, which is pretty much where matter is spewed out from. But an ellipsis would have all the matter sucked in indefinetely.
