Seuss, Timminz's point was that just because you have time for A, does not mean you have time for A & B even if the amount of time for each independently is the same. It's like if I have to go get groceries and get a haircut. Both activities take 15 minutes, but if I've only got 20 minutes free, then I most certainly can't do both.

As for not saying good luck and not saying good game, those are different things. I usually aspire to say 'gg' concluding a match, but since I play many team games (and many esc card games), games can end when I do not expect them to or reach my Finished folder without me realizing it since I run a lot of games. Then if I come across it I don't actually expect someone on the other team to check days later after the game has expired to see if I went back in and typed 'gg'. So if the game is obviously coming to a close and I catch it in time I'll say it, but if not, why bother?

I also agree with foxy's point. Why say something you don't agree with? People have wished me good luck and I appreciate it, but lately I have not returned the favor. I wish them fair luck because I actually hate seeing people get good luck and accomplish shit that shouldn't be possible - I'd rather it be fair and even for both teams.

I think it's stupid to come up with some arbitrary mathematical formula for determining attitude ratings. If you speak (or attempt to speak) to another player in game chat and they are rude or if they lash out in game chat and act rude, then feel free to adjust your ratings. But to not say anything yourself and just apply it arbitrarily to whatever they do is just dumb. What if you're in a best of 5 with the person, do you need to say it each time/game?

If you want to talk someone, join a clan, go to live chat or use the forums. I think the stupidest venue is the game chat especially in light of 'hide chat', 'team chat' and the game log getting in the way.

here you talk about something which takes equal time, 15min for both. But i doubt typing "hi" or "gl" or "hf" or even "good luck and have fun" will consume more than 1% of the time you spend with the game. In general, of course you sometimes don´t have time for A & B, but if A is something you do in your leasure time, and you do A twenty or fifty times ( or more often .... same time!) then i think you will have time for B since it´s just a very few extra time. Of course there is no need for any chat, and i have no problem with people who don´t say anything in chat. I simply prefer to have 1% less games and take time for saying "have fun" .

I agree with Foxy and Wood, that´s why i always say "have fun"

The whole ratings are pretty rudimentary but this seems a "fair" way to mark "attitude" which is hard to define...
Just and opinion and if you don't share it then "gl with THAT!"...LOL

Not saying you shouldn't, but I don't agree with that. You see, I take comments in the game chat for what they are: just comments in a game chat. INot saying 'gl' or 'gg' isn't necessarily a bad thing. When I play games, I do just that; I play for the sake of playing and having fun. Unless I'm playing with someone I know, I usually barely speak at all. Because of this, I don't wish misfortune on the other person for not talking as I usually do the same. The only time I mark people down for attitude is if they actually give a good reason for me to. For example, comments such as "This game sucks!" when losing, or "Profanity and obscenity!" is when I mark the other players down. If they say nothing, I just carry on my merry way and assume neutrality, which isn't really worth marking people down for.

I say have fun, because that would be genuine. I never say good luck - I'd rather luck wasn't in the picture.

Some people have a lot of trouble letting go of silly opinions. Luckily for me, I'm a very easy-going kinda guy, so I don't get too worked up when people show how I'm being ridiculous.

Anyway, I never say "good luck", or "gl". Always "Have fun :)", or "Enjoy", with "gg" at the end. When I remember/have time to check the chat, that is.

ok, maybe i should summ my opinion up:

i think it shows good manners to say anything in chat, but i know a lot of people don´t care about gamechat and just want to play.
that´s ok, other kind of philosophy, but no harm done. i like it when people have the time to say "hi, "greetings", "have fun" or something like that.
several people play a lot of games same time, and i can understand that they sometimes just have to rush their turns and don´t chat, no problem. We are all sometimes busy. I am happy when people say hi, but if they don´t do it ....ok, other people care less about all that .... ok. just an online game.

I also believe that 49 games and greetings in chat are better style than 50 games without greetings, and i´m willing to reduce my gamecount to a number which makes it possible to talk in gamechat. But that´s a question of style, and 90% of CC players will prefer the full number of games. ok

not ok is that some people call their opinon "fact" in a discussion like this. this is a public forum, and all personal opinions in such a discussion should be accepted.

Eh, it's like chess or a ball game - end with a handshake, a gg. There's no reason to wish the other player good luck, especially when you actually wish them bad luck. =)

I rarely say "good luck" because it would be insincere. If somebody else says good luck to me or my team first, I'll respond with a "Thanks. Have fun." I will always say "good game" at the end of a game. And if it's a game with a friendly and respected opponent such as Seul, I'll usually chat to a greater degree, probably cracking a few jokes in the process.

Most of the time, I'll say gl at the start of a game (or at least when I think of it, even if it's 5 rounds in). My reasoning is just simply because it's good Karma. I wish my opponent good luck in the hopes that I will receive good luck in return.

That said, though, "luck" is simply probability, taken personally.

Like many of you, 'Have fun' was something I picked up a couple of years ago as an appropriate greeting to generally unfamiliar users in game chat.

I once came across a user who posted one of various famous quotes about war as his first post in game chat. That is pretty amusing to follow along in his games.

I bet it must befuzzle the hell out of you when someone says something like, "2009-04-07 19:48:09 - the.killing.44: 2009-04-07 18:46:29 - the.killing.44 [team]: good luck"

I try to always say

Have luck, good fun : )

I have moved my game chat box to the top of my screen so I see chat first. I find that helps to not miss game discussions but especially dubs, trips and quads strategy.

So I guess the moral of the story is, if you care about ratings/what people think of you then type something polite in the chat box to start with, and if you don't care then this thread isn't for you

I believe that saying good luck and laughing at your own fails makes the game play much better. If you and your opponent are laughing at your own fails then you're having a good time which is how people should play Risk. Some 12 year olds screaming and ranting about how the dice are rigged and you were a lucky guy and cuss you out makes the community look bad so why not sit back and relax and enjoy an entertaining game like everyone should? 8-)

I don't want them to have good luck, so I don't say that.

I always thought saying gl was kind of disingenuous personally...
