The old days

Postby MNDuke on Sat Nov 20, 2010 2:39 pm

I miss the good old days of CC when you could count on your dice not to be excessively streaky. When they were balanced and the games relied on strategy. Back when the dice didn't determine the outcome of the game after the first round or two. I wish we could back to those times before someone meddled with the dice, excuse me, intensity cube generating program and sucked all the fun out of this site.

i loved the site before all the cheats were put right on the screen to help people with things like counting and figuring out bonuses... in my opinion, that has taken the strategy and gamesmanship out of the site. before, people had to go find the add ons/plugs/cheats, now CC is offering them up on the game page... i could care less about the dice, i hate that they are making the game easy for people that don't even know the fundamentals of board games...-the black jesus

What really pisses me off is the game telling you who's turn it is and how many rounds has gone. In the old days, we had to count the rounds ourselves, and remember whose turn it was. Now the game is so dumbed down any idiot can play it. Without knowing the fundamentals of board games, even. Damn noobs.

u havent really put too much thought into this eh.. makes no sense at all...

plain counting territs is a strategy to u? and how is bob not a good thing if it saves me time? in other words, instead of wasting my time counting stuff on the screen, I can go straight to step 2 - strategy.

would like to see u play hive or some other huge ass map without bob....

errr, apologies if it seems I am being a pedant, but Owen didn't say territs, he said "counting and figuring out bonuses", this is markedly different. A case in point being a foggy game recently where everyone knew the army income for everyone else if they were using bob, whilst those that didn't use bob did not have this facility. One player showed as having what was obviously an income for a bonus from the get go. This does take some of the strategy planning and execution out of the game as it means foggy just ain't so foggy any more. As for your step 2, strategy, well yes, it does mean you can go straight to strategy, even if that is at the expense of the 'foggy' game not being such.....

Agreed there, I have never used BOB or any of the other tech on this game, and it made fog games much more analytical before they came out with all these scripts. Now everything you need to know is pretty much handed over.

Are we really back to "CC took more skill when you had to scroll through the game log"? Spoiler: it didn't take more skill, it just took more time, and if you were winning more fog games before the new stats display, it just means you were playing weaker players who didn't care as much.

In one corner, time and tedious effort!
In the other, those who didn't care as much!

I like the improvements -- I think they really make the game more enjoyable for the new people that come along here and just want to have fun.
After all, if your skill is better than theirs, you should still have an easy time winning on a level playing field, eh? :)

Even your teammates cards now! What next? Preferred place to drop and attack? Sure while some of these add ons have been great, others have really dulled the game out. It takes making mistakes out. I mean people still make them, but pre stats, people would miss a bonus etc. Oh and lets not forget... Pre CM... freestyle was about skill and not soo much about speed. The little man could still compete while now it is lots of running around and killing noobs.

clickies irk me too, but nothing gives me more satisfaction than beating a field marshal at speed freestyle wwII poland where he clearly has clickies and i do not.

some of the enhancements have certainly made me lazy in some respects. i do love BOB though... mostly because there are many unclear maps out there.

omg u guys are sooo wrong :P

"counting and figuring out bonuses" means two thing - counting territs and figuring out bonuses

"..a foggy game recently where everyone knew the army income for everyone else if they were using bob, whilst those that didn't use bob did not have this facility." - this is totally wrong and kinda silly thing to say

- bob is nothing but a calculator that puts all the information, already given by the game log and map, in one place so u dont have to scroll through the game log and stare into the map every damn turn and waste time..
- ppl who use bob dont get any extra info and dont have to add up or detract things which is totally boring and has nothing to do with strategy
- ppl still need to figure out bonuses on their own in the fog cuz bob doesnt do that

and what is so wrong with teammates cards??? I so wanna know..

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The friend who introduced me to this site, quit shortly after I joined, because, "the dice were too streaky, and unrealistic." This was almost 4 years ago.

People complaining about the dice, and their streakyness is not a new thing, nor will it ever be a thing of the past.

The dice are like a universal constant. But if we're lucky, one of these days we'll fly close enough to a Black Hole that perhaps things will get altered.

I have just returned as well. The good old days were a blast. I loved it when the game numbers only had 4 digits and the dice seemed to love me a bit more. Oh well, I'll survive this day and age and remember these as old days soon enough. =p
