Keep a stack reserved that your opponent can not see. This will help you tremendously.

Also, try to eliminate some of your opponents territories that give them a bigger view of the board. The less they know, the better.

I am new, I just won my first two games out of three and one of them was a fog of war map. I just reinforced for two turns, took a bonus, and than went on tours of war, taking whole areas (in this case I took over whole continents) and though the land might be taken over by the enemy again, just keep at it. Large stacks help to take large amount of territories, and soon enough the enemy won't have any troops to draw and you'll be rich with troops. By than its over.

make a large stack of troops in an hidden area and when your enemy(ies) attack your territories you can effectively counter on your next turn

instead of one large stack, distribute your defenses. Your opponents won't be able to gauge your true strength that way. Maintain your presence in as many parts of the map as possible to have accurate information and the ability to influence the board.

First and foremost dont play fog on a map you dont know, then make sure you are averaging the correct amount of troops each turn,If someone has alot of terts odds are they may be spread very thin, most maps terts equal bonus try and make sure if they are near you they dont hold a tert bonus

also, it is very important to see the logs - to know the rough location of each player and the bonuses they have, who is fighting who to gauge their strengths etc.

corrected.

Maybe it's only me. But If I want to try a new map, I prefer fog than non-fog. Because of the new map, I usually make mistake, so I just don't want my opponents know, that I make mistake, and use it.

I would suggest getting some of the Firefox add ons that allow you to take snap shots. this can help you tremendously late in the game when it comes time for eliminations.

Map selection and all about timing of attack

Never play it on a map you have no understanding as bet the player who set it up knows it inside out :-)
Need bob and watch for the player who is growing big and mainly the more you play the better you become ?

So be selective don't run before you can walk ;)

I like random fog of war games where there is a good chance everyone has the same dis/advantage.

Never been a big fan of the hidden stack, too easy to read the log and see what your strategy is. I prefer the distributed defenses and a coordinated push to conquer a tert that allows the best movement/defense. Far easier to attack and hide your army count than to create a big hidden stack. Of course the risk is a bad run on the dice can weaken you early and leave you at someone else's mercy. I generally don't attack for the first two rounds in a fog game to let others show their hand first though. =)
