I guess CHP chased 2 suspects on probation. The 2 ditched their car, hopped a few fences and ditched their gun in my front yard, then hopped my fence, breaking it, then hopped my neighbors fence.
They asked if I saw anything (which I saw the whole thing), I thought for a 2nd and told them i didnt but if i thought of anything i'd give them a call.
In the bay area theres NO SNITCHING!!!!!
Either way theyll get caught and i get a new fence. Just happened

I don't know if I would have or not. I probably would have because I'd be pissed about them breaking my fence, so I'd want to get back at them for that. However, I don't think it's necessarily morally wrong to with hold information if you do not want to become involved.
That would lead me to believe they had knowledge of the guys they were after.OP wrote:CHP chased 2 suspects on probation.

no snitching huh. I might assume that there will be a bunch more crime then? I mean, if the rule is "helping people not get caught for crimes committed" then yeah, more crime...
Nice environment. Keep up the good work.

My occupation allows for me to work with people who hold the code of "no snitching" above almost everything else. Both "clients" and co-workers. I tell the inmates, if you don't want the consequences for doing something, the best way to avoid them is, NOT TO DO IT in the first place. I tell them, "If you ever get thrown under a bus, don't complain, because YOU are the one that caused the bus to be there". It's called taking responsibility for your actions. At work the say that INTEGRITY is doing the right thing even when nobody is looking. I say it is doing the right thing because it's the right thing to do. But don't get mad at others because they saw you "do dirt" and then "snitch", stop doing dirt!

Jay, this is exactly why I don't dislike you, however wildly I disagree with you, and no matter how delusional I feel you are on , well, most stuff.
You have a moral core that is fundamentally right and good.
You say "Don't snitch" means " shut up when someone else does something wrong".
And you spotlight exactly what is wrong with this.
Although I grew up in a culture that held this as a fundamental principle, I have never understood it.
I understand "I don't think this thing is wrong, so I'll say nothing".
But I don't understand "I won't say who mugged my next door neighbour" or "I won't say who raped your sister"

But I did touch on something else. The key is that many people in our country just don't trust our justice system. When a judge/police officer is some remote guy who takes away your friends and relatives, when you see the criminals and know you will have to deal with them long before any police.. then "no snitching" seems pretty sensible. The answer is multiple. Above all, we must work harder than ever to ensure that our justice system truly targets those who are harmful criminals. More and more today, they wind up concentrating on others.

I believe in absolute right and wrong. So it doesn't matter if the system is corrupt or not. Do the right thing anyway. My trust is not in the justice system, it's in God.
