Secret Alliances, Wall Posts, and a Poorley Enforced Rule

Postby GloverParkDude on Fri Oct 01, 2010 12:14 pm

Rule #2 is important. You don't want players in a multi-player game posting on each others walls (or by PM, IM or any other M), secretly forming an alliance to team up against a 3rd player. This is cheating and unacceptable.

However,

In 8 player/Speed/Freestyle/Escalating game things are happening very fast on a very cramped map. Chat in these games is often very lively and important as players attempt to jockey for positions and cards while avoiding getting attacked. When I play these games I always announce in the early stages of the game my strategy as to not surprise a player. Occasionally in these 8p games you get a player who does not read the chat, either b/c they are new to the site or they are busy and don't care. When I encounter a player who I believe may not be reading the chat, I parrot what I wrote in chat onto their wall as a courtesy, in hopes that it will get their attention to the fact that this is a game where discourse is important.

I don't believe this is "cheating" or a "secret alliance" and I do not believe should be Ruled as such.

Wall them, asking them to check game chat and everything is good. It gets the same result without looking like secret diplomacy and also trains them to look at chat.

Win. Win. Win.

I have run into a super noob who didn't know what that means. I have run into noobs who didn't know they had a wall. I want to copy and post game chat on walls without threat of vacation by a "volunteer" who understands less about how the game is played then i do.

scenario, with 50 seconds left some noob moves onto your ownly card spot. If i write on his wall. "Please read the game chat" he will look at that, then take 10 seconds to get back to the game. then he won't see what i wrote because 5 people have already been posting scrolling my chat up to where he can't see it. it leaves a lot more open to chance. why can't i say what i said in chat on his wall. It's not a secret alliance.

It's easy to "understand" cheating.

Umm. Yes it is.

Defending secret diplomacy = FOED.

GPD its simple if you are writing on peoples walls about the game then it is secret diplomacy, and i think it should be. Yeah this is not a big deal and not everyone needs to know it but if 2 people are communicating about a game it needs to be in chat. Those are the rules and where else would you draw the line if not here that there is no way to get around it for actual secret diplomacy?

if you post the actual chat line, copy and paste, then it isn't secret. it is already public then it is impossible to be made secret.

but if they respond via wall to what you wrote on their wall instead of in chat then who is guilty?

This is the line that has been drawn and i agree with it, as it would make things way more complicated to have the rule any other way i can think of.

I foed this cat after I saw how he and his buddys nonchalantly threw a game. Lol, the only post I can see in this thread is yours jeff, But I think I get the idea. Funny he is still trying to explain to people how the stuff he and his friends do, is not cheating.

If they dont know they have a wall, then what good is posting your comments there anyway? You could just go to callouts and find/setup games with people of your own rank, or a rank you desire, and then you wont have to worry about the "noobs" that dont check game chat. Basically any way you want to roll this, there is really no way posting anything about a game outside of the game chat will not be secret diplomacy (except in team games to your own teammates i guess...), so youre fighting a battle youre not going to win...

This is about 8 player fs escalating and he does have a point that it isnt really secret diplomacy and is often necessary but i dont know where else you could draw the line so i think it should remain the way it is and you should just have to say look at game chat...which is what i do.

Better if you copy the entire thing, then from the gamechat, including your timestamp, and at least say, "I made this comment in gamechat game ####### for you," to make it much easier to check that you did, indeed, post it openly in gamechat, too.

read the guidlines plz

Rule #2 on the site states that all diplomatic discussions MUST take place within the Game Chat in English or a language all players can understand. This includes proposing alliances and discussing the strategies of those alliances. Keep this in mind because players who violate it may find themselves Blocked from playing with each other.

if this guy is doing this all the time (im sure his name has came up for it a few times. )

should he not be given a forum vacation for it. sorry but he is using wall posts 2 cheat players get vacations for posting in wrong forums and calling a player a dick.

sorry glover park dude but it is cheating.

I read the fucking guidelines. My first post i reference them. I was writing to question how a rule is enforced and written. Do you really not understand the difference? Is it breaking the rules as written? yes. Would even a person with a basic understanding of the English Language call it a secret "secret alliance"? I don't believe so. I understand ljex's point of where would the site draw the line (and if they respond, on your wall where is the line drawn, i hadn't considered and I think most valid) and it is why I have decided to not argue the point further.
