Who watched the oscars?

Postby Fish Breeder Boy on Wed Feb 28, 2007 5:12 am

On Sunday i believe, at least that's when they had it here in the US but i'm not sure what happened else where.

I know that Britain is satisfied because Helen Mirren took it home she deserved it and same with Forrest. Is it true she's having tea with the queen?

I thought Jennifer deserved hers too. but I thought Eddie Murphy was jipped. Alan Arkin was okay but he wasn't as good as Eddie.

Martin deserved his award this wasn't his best movie by far but he deserves it by now. I thought that The Departed didn't deserve best picture it was okay, i wanted Little Miss Sunshine to win. And Dreamgirls was completely shut up out that category which made no sense.

My biggest disappointment was when they thought Melissa Ethridge's song "truth" from An Inconvient Truth won. The documentary was good but the song sucked. Dreamgirls got three nods in that category, but they didn't win? Bull i thought Listen would take it home. My theory is that the voters wanted Dreamgirls to win but they couldn't decide on which song to vote for.

Your thoughts?

Edit - I watched them. I think most of us could have deduced that but just for kicks.

I don't watch them. I haven't watched them for many many years.

They stopped being relevant a long time ago, and I got sick of the whole event.

I saw parts of it. I was drunk at a churrasco, but it was playing inside.

The Departed was OVERRATED. It had a lot of flaws.

I love The Queen, which was MADE by Helen Mirren's portrayal.

I liked Little Miss Sunshine a lot, though I don't know if it was deserving, though I would have liked to see a comedy win. I think it would have been the first since Annie Hall. My favorite part of Little Miss Sunshine was the Proust bit, which was really funny because it's pretty much my life.

Babel was good. I don't know.

I didn't see Letters from Iwo Jima, though I'd like to.

Academy Awards Frustration!

Postby Shaninon on Wed Feb 28, 2007 5:32 pm

I -wish- I could have seen them! I was looking forward to it all the previous week -.-;; I love Ellen, I really like the whole awards show process, and the Oscars are one of the very few things I actually go out of my way to watch. I really, really, REALLY wanted to see it, but then I find out that my partner's mother is going to have a birthday dinner starting at -exactly- the same time as the show >.<!!! Ugh! It was such a disappointment! I'm sorry to vent about it here, but I just needed to whine a little :)

How did Pan's Labyrinth do? I know it was nominated in a few categories. That was by far my favorite movie of the last year.

I dislike award shows and reality television. I think it's all crap.

Agreed. I'm not sure why you bring reality TV into this, but I agree with that anyway.

The Departed - not seen it. I tend to think everything by Scorcese gets overrated. The best thing he did was Taxi Driver, then he should have retired, if you ask me. Plus, I saw Infernal Affairs ages ago, and I refuse to watch a remake. I don't recommend the sequels to that film, though. They're shite.

Actually, the only Oscar-winning one I did see was Pan's Labyrinth. I dunno if it deserved any Oscars - I don't know if any good film deserves to be sullied with Oscars - but I really liked that. The Devil's Backbone is another film the same director did, and apparently it's supposed to be good - I added it to my rental list after seeing Pan's.

Now I will stop posting like I'm on IMDB, and remember I'm on Conquer Club.

The Devil's Backbone is very similar to Pan's Labyrinth, and, I think, much better.
