Grievance Moderator needed

As with the other positions, we are now looking for a grievance moderator.

This mod's job would be to wade through the often funny, but sometimes inappropriate grievances left.

Once the Mod is chosen, we will issue guidelines for grievances along which they will do their job, but basically - no overly offensive language, no revenge grievances, and nothing petty (i.e. "they take 20 minutes to take their turn" or "they chose the colour yellow, yellow is for losers")

If you are intersted, please PM me and let me know why you want, why you would be good and roughly how much time you can commit to it.

I still hope this grievance thing can be forgotten and we have ignore list back... Maybe lack should admit it was an error... its doing nothing good to the site or the players. Just my opinion.

i think that is why Lack wants to delegate the overseeing of the grievances, so that we can ensure his original guidelines are followed. Personally I think the only thing wrong with the system is that it is not used as intended.

I have to disagree with you, Marv. I miss the ignore list, and it looks like lack may be bringing it back sometime soon. Once that happens, you will be able to look up a player who has grievances, and see what others say about them, and whether or not you'd want to risk leaving them off your ignore list. i don't see what your problem with it is... I think it's mainly just that you miss the ignore list. But once we have a moderator for the grievances, and they're being used and filed as intended, how will it NOT help the site?

There is an overhaul of the grievance system coming soon. It should hopefully address some/many of the concerns which have been raised. Lack has been following the discussion closely

Cant imagine a more thankless job. Everybody thinks the grievances they file are legit, even if its just a personality conflict or something, so they are gonna pissed when those get deleted. Likewise, everybody thinks the grievances against them are bullshit and will be pissed when those DONT get deleted. Well thanks in advance from me to whoever takes this one on.

In addition to moderating the grievances, would the mod also 'improve the quality of speech' in the grievances? (I.E. obvious spelling and gramatical errors so it is easily read and understood) Or would they not disrupt the sanctity of the grievance filed? I've read quite a few, and some I've no idea what they are trying to say due to lack of sentence structure and spelling.

It would be virtually impossible to expect a mod to clean up spelling and grammar...I wouldnt ask my worst enemy to try to interpret the d00d 1337ness of some of these posts.

they will, should they so choose, and if people agree, attempt to insitute a standard, but that will be discussed later with them.

So far I've seen 2 grievances that are completely childish. One was a whiner that complained about another because he didn't suppress a player who was winning.

The other one I read was a grievance against someone because he complained about him filing a grievance against another. Talk about complain, complain, complain!!

I've also noticed exactly what Andy is talking about. The grievances I've read are all mostly typed horribly with absolutely no grammer so you can't tell one sentence from another. The responces to them are much better, making it seem the grievance was filed by an idiot against someone totally innocent (and with better grammer as well

). The grammer could be corrected only the sentence stops and ends, and maybe putting some commas and semicolons here and there, to make it much more readable. Things like 1337ness and d00d (like Twill said) are sometimes impossible to interpret, so they may be left alone.

These grievances I've been reading about people are totally meaningless and only accuse the other person of doing something that pissed him off, but wasn't really worth any grievance. This is getting out of hand and a moderator must be in charge of receiving and sending the grievances.

If anyone files a grievance it will be sent to the moderator to fix up if it's meaningful enough, or tossed aside if it's potentially useless and idiotic. Of course, there should be at least 5 of these moderators, on the count of this website being very large.

I could squeeze the time into my schedule for being one of those moderators, and I'm very concerned about what they might contain, especially if it's just a worthless complaint. The other players looking at the person's name will see the number 1 or 12 or whatever next to it, and most or all of them will be nonsensical ramblings that are not worthy at all to be even considered grievances.

The moderators, since they can't decide if the grievance is genuine, can be the referees(sp?) on each grievance, but at least the absolute stupid ones are taken off.

Ive seen the same garbage on grievances filed, and even had somebody ask me to back them up in a grievance. He had filed one on a guy for breaking allinances (gasp!) and was so worked up about it he wanted me to file too. I wasnt even in the game! Ridiculous stuff. And I didnt even know either party, or if I had ever had any contact with this guy I had forgotten it.

The point is, he really believed he was right to file this grievance. I just dont see how this system will be anything but abused when people get so worked up about things that are a part of the game. My thought on making it work would be to have a drag-and-check form that must be filled out. The filer would have to check mark whatever offence applied and insert a game number. That way things that everybody would like to see tracked would be, (multis, deadbeats, secret allinces, etc.) while other things would be impossible to report because there woulndt be a place to check mark "this guy broke our alliance and smack-talked at me", or "this guy helped out his teamate way too much in a doubles game".

Another thought would be, only allow grievances to be filed by people with a certain amount of experiance. Say 20 or 30 games or something. That way we can at least hope by that time the guy will have some knowledge of the game and will know better than to file about certain things.

I'm glad to hear about this. The ignore list isn't perfect either. There should be a combination.

The problem with grievances is that say you join a game of four people, you're the third, and the fourth person to join is that guy with 34 grievances who is always a deadbeat. At that point you can't drop the game, you're stuck with him. In that case the grievance system wouldn't help because you can't ignore him until you play him.

The ignore list on its own doesn't work. Unless you scour the forums looking for possible cheats, you're not going to know who to ignore either. It's nice to see a little indication next to a player with possible problems.

It's not so nice, however, to have 6 indications next to my name from revenge grievances. My most recent grievance is from my partner in a doubles game who sent me a private message saying he didn't trust me, wouldn't take my advice, and filed a grievance with me before the game was over. I have such obviously unfair grievances that this moderator is a great idea.

I couldn't possibly do the job of moderating, however. My fiancee is already itching to kill me the second she sees me typing in conquerclub.com on my browser.

Under the old punishment system where cheaters were just given warnings the ignore system required the forum scanning. Now that cheaters are now being banned instead of warned the ignore list is more for annoying and suspect people rather than actual cheaters.

I posted some suggestions on the appropriate forum which I thought might enhance the grievance system including unjustified grievances.

probably but it would have to be some nuetral person who everybody knows who is not predidicial to special interests and who does not get pissed off at new people just because their new. most of the griviances i read are because the player did something he did not know was wrong or the complainer complained because he thought it was wrong!! why even stdb04 is playing by the rules he has done what is allowed by the site. Don't get me wrong he is a pain, but the site allows it , then it is allowed. change the rule. so as i said. Make sure it is someone nuetral enough to take everything into account the way it was played verses the rules we have!!!

If what he were doing were against the rules, then no one would need to file a grievance against him. He could just be banned instead.

ahh but you miss the point people break rules secret alliances and such, they get warnings but they do not get banned unless they are multi's, and then only till they buy premium, ignore button would work for this guy and i know what it is to play him he has played in 7 of my games and got kicked in everyone. I have not filed a single grivence against him. it is what he does . the thing to do is to ponder why. Why does he do it is it the only way to make people who are having fun suffering while he is suffering maybe on his death bed maybe not. but why is he doing it he paid premium. Is he sneaking on the computer and gets caught and grounded and sneaks again. Things that you don't care about cause you like to play your game. but still i ask why it is

If we delete grievances which are just plain stupid people don't just get a bad reputation for missing 1 turn in a 30 round game

Might be better to have a trusted anonymous Grievance Moderator? Or a separate account titled Grievance Moderator and let that person play against dugcarr and STDwhatever for a lifetime in Hell.
