Terminator Games

Post by RSTB »

I seem not to be very successful in Terminator games. Could not win "one" yet.
Any advise on the strategy?

U mean u cannot win the overall game? well first off, I wuld have put this thread in the Strategies section of the forum...
but in terminator games, I find that most players are drawn to try and take out high ranked players more often then trying to capture continents and bonuses... so try and not worry about the elimination aspect, but worry about the overall game... idk if that will help, as i haven't played many myself, but it would make the most sense to me :P

If your goal is to win the terminator game, you need to keep these in mind:

-Players will go for kills more readily than they would in a standard game. This does NOT mean suiciding works, UNLESS you're going for a kill of a player of a considerably higher rank than you, otherwise it's not worth the time. Most players seem to notice this, and will only suicide into high ranking players, hoping for a decent share of their points.

-Avoid weakening other players to the point where others can kill them. This is similar to escalating strategies, in that the "kill" is very important. Again, protecting a territory of a very weak player can help guarantee the kill for yourself.

Otherwise, it plays very much like any other standard game, just with an increased focus on the "kill".

I have a simplistic way of looking at Terminator Games. If no one eliminates me - I gain points. My goal is never eliminating the most or the highest ranking other players - its survivial.

If its a no spoils game, I find it better just to let other people attack and maybe even make the first few kills, then I am stronger and can make the kills to finish the game off. you don't lose points and you work on your terminator medal

I play terminator escalating. Esc. juggernaut is the way to go in that case.

Terminator games are fun. I usually try to get to eliminate everyone myself, but sometimes it pays to let someone do the first one or two eliminations and then go for the rest... like someone already said.

In a terminator game, if there's a chance for an easy kill, I'll go for it, but only if it doesn't cost me the rest of the game.

.... and it's probably the best thing to do, some think ''if i kill someone i'll have points immediatly '' but sometimes they just kill someone and end up losing the game and sometimes they don't even gain points or few ( 1or 3 points ), so try to win the game, gl in future games

For me in terminator games, I still try to take small bonuses to give me that little boost in deployments, and I usually aim to take a player out before round 5. Although cards come into play in that decision, you'd need a trade in with the persons cards your eliminating to hopefully take out another player.

For me personally, I just aim to take out players rather than win the game. If you take out two players (in a 4 player game) and end up losing, you'll usually still gain 20-30 points.

Then again, I suppose my rank is a bit low for how long I've been playing

The key to terminator depends on card style of the game. I always play escalating.

the key to these games is board placement. try and work from 3 or four areas of the board. A beginners mistake is thinking territory bonus is the key to victory...wrong! I'm not saying you cant win with a bonus but more often then not folks lose more armies trying to take it and hold it. By mid game a 2 army bonus will not help against a 25 army cash in.

army conservation, board placement and patience are key.

That applies to any escalating game, not just terminators.

Keep in mind that attacking is necessary to survive, your good defense is an offense, but make sure it is in an area that you can keep under control, like Australia. It is a good defensible place, keep it as your home base

Certainly doesn't sound like a no rank...

Very true.

When I was fist taught terminator at SOC the idea was to work toward smaller victories. Smaller victories being how to prepare to take someone out for points. i was happy taking someone out for points. I rose from sarge to Lt in about a week.

I started playing CC with the preconceived notion that it was somehow like RISK. I would play escalating by taking Australia or SA for the bonus, build a secure base only to log on to find game over as someone had rolled the board.

Escalating terminator is played just like standard escalating except terminator is more gentle to noobs and easier to build ones confidence in game play.

To the OP check out School of Cooks. One learns a basic but very strong foundation to game play, which can carry over to other game maps and styles. (Shameless plug Intended)
