Wow! Absolutely stunning! (is there really no thread for this movie yet?)
The plot had some predictable elements but it was oddly very satisfying when the things I expected to happen, actually happened. I had some emotional responses to this film, which is saying something for me.
Have you seen it? Any comments?

That movie was so retarded. I like how those soldiers were using heavily armoured mechs with HUGE, easily breakable windows... kinda defeats the purpose of making the mechs in the first place, huh? The entire last hour of the movie was pointless anyways, if they wanted to kill the faggot space elves they could've just released some crazy desease or lit the damn forest on fire, there's no reason to sacrifice billions of dollars worth of military forces.

Just got home from it myself, saw it in IMAX 3D. I highly recommend everyone make the effort to see this in 3D.
Anyone assailing the film based on it's plot doesn't get it. Someone here mentioned Dances With Wolves, I was thinking of Little Big Man. Only supercilious teenagers and idiots sleeping their way through film school complain about a movie's "originality". There is nothing new under the sun when it comes plot.
BUT HOLY SHIT THERE IS WHEN IT COMES TO TECHNIQUE.
The 3D was simply astounding. I can't help but feel that my awe at watching the movie was much like the first film going audiences sitting in awe at pictures that were moving.

All the 3D technology that you see in the movie was designed and created by the production team, which will be used in most every future 3D movie you see.
The beauty in the movie is the presentation and the meaning behind the story. Have you ever been blown away listening to a symphony? Ever have your mind blown at an artists masterpiece? Have you ever look out onto a city and marveled at how beautiful it is and what it took to construct at thing like that? Ever looked out into the sky and wonder how beautiful the stars lie?
To understand Avatar is to understand art, beauty, and love.
It's not about the 3D, but the 3D is the equivalent of giving a blind man sight.
I am going this weekend and have high expectations.
I've talked to about 5 people who hate it and have not seen it. Keep in mind that these are the people who hated Harry Potter and The Dark Knight based solely on their popularity and hype, and then ended up enjoying it.
