In honor of the new Third Crusade map, which recently entered beta, I thought I would put together a tournament based on this theme and time period.
Structure
There will be 8 teams of four players. Each team will choose an historic European, Middle Eastern, or North African state from the late 12th century (list below). Each member of each team will play in a series of 8-player games on the Third Crusade map. There will be four games in this series (one for each year of the crusade). The players will be shuffled so each player will get to play against a unique set of opponents each match. Victory by eliminating all opponents grants 1 point to the winning player’s team. Victory by achieving the map objectives grants 3 points to the winning player’s team.
At the end of the four rounds, the four teams with the highest scores will advance to a semi-finals round in which the 1st place team will play the 4th ranked team and the 2nd will play the 3rd in a quads game on the Third Crusade map. In the event of a tie, either a tie-breaker will be held between the teams or a fifth round of standard games will take place, depending on which place is being tied for and how many teams are tied. This round is single-elimination and the winners advance to the finals which have the same format (quads, single-elimination, Third Crusade). For the successful conquest/defense of the Holy Land, the victors will be declared the Defenders of the(ir) Faith.
Settings
All games will be automatic, flat, chained, sunny.
Signups
Freemiums are welcome so long as they leave one slot open. However, rounds begin promptly at the completion of all of the previous round’s games and all players will have 48 hours to join their game. I *may* allow an extra 24 hours following a private message, but that is not a promise. If you do not join your game by this point, your team will either have to assign a replacement (who will take your spot for the remainder of the tournament) or I will reorganize the game as a 7-player game and continue on without you. If this occurs in the finals, your team may be forced to forfeit the match.
I give priority to those who sign up as a team. You are welcome to sign up as an individual and be assigned a team, but I will enter you as a reserve until another three players sign up. If a team slot remains open after several days I will form you up into a team.
