Re: Top of the Class [Round 1]

Postby zips5000 on Wed Jul 01, 2009 4:15 pm

I have a question about the bonuses ... They are right now as listed below.

Straight As (no retakes) = 200 points
Straight As (with retakes) = 125 points
All Bs or above (no retakes) = 100 points
All Bs or above (with retakes) = 75 points
All Cs or above (no retakes) = 50 points
All Cs or above (with retakes) = 25 points

My question is why does Straight As (with retakes) get more points than All Bs (no retakes). I understand that As are better than B's, but someone who got Bs to begin with, shouldnt be penalized by not getting a chance to retake a class if he got a C instead. Hope this makes sense, I can explain better if it doesnt.

I get what you mean. I thought about it too, but I decided that Straight As with retakes should be worth more points as it requires more wins than All Bs without retakes; a B requires 4 wins whereas an A with retakes requires 6, with 4 of them being from a batch of 4.

The extra points for the Straight As with retakes is also to reward the player for winning all of the other games - it's really unlikely for a player to get all of the As with retakes, I think the other As would probably be won straight off.

Hope that explains why I chose those points, if you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

I feel your plain, friend. I am also a math teacher, and I am going to fail this subject, sadly enough.

How do you get straight As with retakes when you can only improve by 2 grades from a D to a B? And by the way I have a D so if I can still get straight A's with retakes then giddeyup.

Thanks for pointing that out! The straight As with retakes was left over from when I had another grading system in mind. You are right - from a D the highest you can get is a B. I'll amend the details accordingly

Last original maths? or Last retakes? (Not nagging, just trying to keep track- I can barely keep track of tournements as mere participant... my hat is definately off to those of you who organize these crazy fascinating things. Kudos!)

The last original Maths, we'll do the retakes after the normal Maths, English Language and Sport games. All the Maths are finished now...just gotta make the next 250 games for y'all :)
