So all u captains colonels and some generals think that this game is all about tactic well i got some bad news for all of u.. Tactics is the small part of the game.. the larger part is Luck i've beaten colonel's before i've beaten captains and sure i will go higher and i will go after after some generals when the opportunity comes forward this game is about tactics guyz... But sure of hell needs a lot of luck so stop being so ignorant and arrogant think wisely guyz if u think i'm wrong what ever your rank is you must be so stupid

JOHNNY, you must think I'm as naive as a noob. I wouldn't join those games if I kne my P's would be blitz, and who ever was second on the coreboard. FREESTYLE???? C'mon, I know betterthan that. Last triples freestyle game I was in, I don't know how they did it, but one of my P's was eliminated before getting a turn, I was wiped out by round 2, and the game was over by round 3. After one round over half my men were gone, and it said it said I missed a turn, when I hadn't in one of the rounds. I thin kyou might even have been involved in that game. You want me in a triples game, fine, get whomever you want as P's. I set up a game. 208387. When ifind me a couple of P's, join up with whomever you wish. Beat me in that, and I 'll make a thread in your honor. Don't know how it's done, but something's wrong in a freestyle game when my two P's and I are all but eliminated after only 1 round, and the other team have 3 continents, all well fortified.

ok. i got 3 players to play you... and keep in mind, your team is playing from the same household. kinda gay IMO, but I guess its permitted.

game 208387 in case anyone wants to watch.

So, I recently noticed people dropping a game because I joined one with higher ranking people, if they didn't want us to join, why not make the games private. I know we've all said it before, so there, I said it again. URGH. If you don't know me, you should at least give me a chance. Then if you don't like me, add me to your ignore list, I don't give a chit.

I recently played a freestyle triples with unlimited forts, with opponents who were all on at the same time. We didn't last 3 rounds.

I probably won't play that particular set of settings again, thanks to that one game.

People who care that much about points are lame. I don't play often but when I play, I play anyone who wants to play me, and I'd hope people who host games would be willing to play me when I join too. I also play mostly standard, doubles games I play are all requests or tourneys.

What I mean is play for fun, don't care about points.

JOHNNYROCKET24's a pansy ass chicken shit that's too afraid to play me. I set up a game, and he gave the PW out to three others, who joined. What's the matter, afraid to take me on in a fair game. For the record Vic doesn't live here nor do I know him or met him, and what does it matter that Kayla does live here?

whats up super pros, i figure a more experienced player might take their turn on time, and not permantley flake, but I would rather play someone close to my experience.
besides how do you know if someone new to the site isn't just awesome at the traditional boardgame?
also, if i play with a high ranker, i'll probably lose, but might gain some strategic insight. maybe not but I'll be sure to avoid you tough-guy.

I don't play freestyle period - I think that game type needs a lot more thought before it is fun to play - albeit it was the game type that drew me to this site in the first place. After my points got down to the 600's I soon realised my mistake :)

To all those saying noobs might be awsome at the actual risk board game, and shouldn't be taken lightly. I could agree except that CC rules differ from standard risk rules radically. I am very good on a real riskboard, but I got my ass handed to me the first 10 games or so until I got used to it. In real risk you can start out with all your armies on one country, except the single ones on other countries. In real risk all fortifications are adjacent. I pefer that, but in a risk game where you have 3 men on each country all spread out, adjacent isn't practical, nor is chained. Thr strategys on a real riskboard, and CC are different, so even a risk expert will struggle for a few games.

For those that keep commenting on my suit, it's not a suit, it's a tux. The photo is from my wedding day. I have changed my avatar to reflect that. That is me and Kayla, me in my tux, her in her gown.

It's not that you aren't as good as them, but do you know what we see when there is a low ranked person in our games? We see a threat to our point total that we've worked hard to get. If you win, we lose a bundle, so we make sure that doesn't happen. Ever feel ganged up on in a game like that? It's because you are a big fat target. We will make sure you do not win. If you don't have at least 3 stripes by your name, and you join a game with 3 Captains or higher, you are a dead man before the game has even begun, so why do it? I don't get it.

I love making upsets.

Ever played in a ranked chess tournament, and having your 700 rating (effectively a n00b) beat someone with a 1800 rating? Gosh, that feels good.

As an official current noob (with zero completed games so far but working on it), I would like to speak for all non-offended noobs and say that it is fun to play with pros, not to annoy them or make them nervous, but to learn advanced strategies and get as big of an adrenaline rush as a non-live online flash game can give (which isn't that much, but still). And occasionally, we do get lucky (okay, maybe more than luck would have to be on our side to win, but we atleast play decently sometimes).

PS I am currently playing a triples game on freestyle turns and unlimited fortifications and I would like to speak for all the players of that game by saying that it happens to be very fun (don't argue with me I'm just expressing my opinion of one game).

As a noob...

Postby Mustapha Mond on Mon Feb 05, 2007 10:55 am

a) I want the challenge (echo)

b) Point taken regarding Risk, but having gotten bored with playing the same rules all the time in Risk, I've played many of the variations found on CC, including even distribution of armies, unlimited fortifications, etc. And if someone wants to, they can find CC games with rules that pretty much match Risk.

c) Ranked players play faster and don't miss turns. Two of my first four games are doubles/triples and all of my teammates have missed all their turns. What do you suppose my odds are? :-)

d) Most importantly -- because points/ranking hasn't even really crossed my mind. I'm here to play the game because I enjoy it. I suppose if I stick with it, ranking might become important to me, but I honestly haven't even looked at how points are determined.

Lol...cuse they don't know better...I hate all this elitism, just because someone is a Maj. or Cpt. after hundreds of games, means poop to me....When you make General...I still won't care...

Go ahead say it I'm only a LT. with only 22 games completed in 3 months here(sorry but I have a life).

If you are playing in a game you can't possibly win, then you almost certainly do what you can to make sure the highest ranking person that can win does win, cause it cost you less pts. I have done this. When it is apparent I can't win no matter how good my strategy is, I focus the rest of my remaing attacks on the lowest ranking person.

If you feel the need to ruin the game in order to save your precious points, then you should really think about finding another hobby. I've been playing Risk since I was 5 years old and in that 25 years I've only seen one person 'suicide' their armies. He was 30 some years old at the time and got laid out by a 16 year old with a nasty left hook. Maybe you'll get lucky and only be banned.

Why do I want to join games with 'high' ranked players?

To try and learn!

We learn from all sorts of experiences...including mistakes and losing.
And who knows we may just win, cos there is more to life than conquer club!

(If i say it often enough, I may believe it...There is more to life than CC...There is more to life than CC...nope, I'm addicted)

Risk in RL, risk vs AI, Risk on other sites...a noob here may not ACTUALLY be a noob to risk!

This site is just great for the volume of games that can be played and the variety of games.

To Lack: Thankyoum for this great site.
To andymerlot: Thank you for getting me addicted to something much more addicitive than crack cocaine!!

Most of the time I stick with people around my own ability, or folk that I know ... but I do enjoy playing a high ranked player from time to time; I've learnt a hell of a lot from seeing how they play the game.

Honestly I could care less about rank. Some people take rank and post count way to seriously.

Many of us have been playing Risk for a very long time. I've been playing for 25 years now and in that time I've played every variation of the game that is available on this site plus many more. My point is that many, many people have played lots of variations of Risk and to think "newbs" don't know how to play on this site is pretty silly.

It would be difficult to assess what you feel about ranks until you have been playing in here for a few months, 2 days in and I didn't give 2 cents for rank. I'm still not that bothered but can't say I don't care when I get close to the rank delimiters. Or more to the point loose a game where a lot of points were at stake :(
