All 1vs1 strategies

Post by Joodoo »

Pour in your one on one strategies here! I think the most basic part of 1vs1 is not to attack neutrals at the beginning (unless it's a "conquest" map).

Make your 3, 3s into 4, 2s! It's just a personal tactic. :D

well, as with many strategies, you want to be sneaky, you dont want them to know on the first trn that your trying to take the biggest bonus on the map! I would say, on the first turn, maintain all 3's if you can, but if not, keep the threes you have where you need them!

1. You want to always focus on the bonus you take. Don't deploy in some useless area just to make your opponent think that you are not going for a bonus. Guess what your opponent will do in the meantime? Make sure that you can't take the bonus you want.
2. Never go for a large bonus.
3. 3's are bad because they only roll 2 dice, much better to have 4s or 5s.

1. Get a fantastic drop
2. Go first, therefore maintaining your fantastic drop and net a chance to hit any bonus your opponent may have before their turn
3. Hot dice ;)

I look for places where together my opponent and I own a bonus. That way, if I can eliminate him from that area, I'm accomplishing two tasks...eliminating his territories while also gaining a bonus (without having to take on a neutral).

Aside from that, I try to gain an "end", so that I can move ALL of my armies forward as I attack, rather than being forced to leave defensive armies behind.

They're actually developing a strategy guide for all 1v1's in the guide group. In fact, funny story, I got kicked out for telling them they were fucking twits for trying to develop a 1v1 map, since every map has its own little quirks and special gameplay tweaks to it, but hell, they're still doing it.

I agree, that guide rocks. If you followed those strategies, you would win almost as much as I do.

Haha, funny, changing what I said, it's hilarious. Why don't you get back to your failure of a guide, hmm?

Spiteful much? Just because you don't know how to play doesn't mean that we can't teach others.

Your flame(baiting) is pretty pathetic, Bald. And I'm sure your 1v1 guide will tell a precise way to play each and every map type, since you're such a skilled player yourself.

I'd laugh, but I don't even think it's funny, how much you'll botch this.

i think if you get a good drop that good, but if you dont you need to take your opponent away before he get to big. Then second you got to keep pressure on that important, but before anything is to make the right move in the first round if not you lose and i know look at my record on 1v1

If you understood maps you could classify them. Maps are not unique snowflakes: there are just 4 types. So you only need to work out 4 strategies, not 120.
Thanks for your "contributions" though. We all valued graduating from grade school a lot more after your outbursts.

I disagree with that as a universal rule, when playing lux you might want to take a neutral to take a bonus

Almost never actually, in my opinion, on a map that small. Larger maps there might be some value in that, but in a tiny map like that, you'd better be pouring all of your efforts at your opponent or you're giving away armies to them.

Isn't 2 dice the most you ever defend with?
Or perhaps you are referring to attacking.

Just want to say that I am appreciating reading through the strategy here.

Simple tips for forming a good strategy:
(If I'm talking about 3 attacker dice, I mean you have at least 4 on a territory.)

1.) Only attack 3v2/3v1, rarely 2v1, never 1v1, 2v2 or 1v2.
You're only playing 1 opponent, so if you loose a fight on average, don't fight it.

2.) try to be the more offensive one without having many 1's at your borders.
3v1-fights are more profitable on average than 3v2, so don't fight them too many
Also, always fort to the border from area's that are quite safe to be attacked.

3.) don't fight neutrals.
If you fight an area with 3 neutrals, you'll loose about 2.5 troops conquering it. The opponent doesn't loose that, so you'd better make sure taking that area is worth 2.5 troops. (unbreakable 4-bonus territory would be nice, but that's very rare in 1v1-fights).

4.) Make sure you gain more troops than your opponent.
Basic step for winning any fight, involving troop counts and bonusses, shouldn't need to be explained. (BOB is your friend :)

This is for non-freestyle 1v1-fights on normal maps.
Some maps focus on point 4 (bonusses, or even complex bonusses), and point 3 is obviously less important for the age of realms-maps and similar maps.

8 step 1v1 stragtegy on arms race

1. kill all enemies on one side (us/ussr)so they will be stuck on the other side
2.go for uranium plants cuz they CANNOT be bombarded by spies
3.go for everything else (scientists,president/premiere,launch code,cities)
4.go for the rocket all the way ur troops can go (rockets CANNOT be bombarded)
5.hold president/premiere and launch code for 50 yes 50 troops
6.deploy these on troops on the warhead (below the nuke cloud)
7. conquer missile launch (nuke cloud)
8.bombard the enemy side with all ya got

tip:go for us cuz its smaller, means less to conquer

did this and got me my first win
hope it works :D

Man it's hard to gain once you get to around 1700+ as a freemium. It's not too hard to get there but now it's just too hard to gain points. Done it mostly through 1v1's although I had a few 8 player wins as well. But now in 1v1's I need to win two games for every one I lose and if you get a few bad drops in a row your screwed. Of course I could start trying to seek out players at the same or higher ranks but I have always played whoever whenever.

My question is this, what is the best way to recover from a bad drop/dice. If you find yourself behind how do you try to claw your way back? Say they have a small bonus that you don't think you can break, do you go all out to break it or do you secure a card (in card games obviously) and wait for a better chance?
