Tonight I lost 228K dollars US

Post by mccallan25 »

Dear Barack:

I lost a lot of money today in the markets. I didn't lose a cent untl you started talking. I lost 228 thousand dollars. For the aveage middle class american, that lost would be at least 16 years of their income. For me it was almost a year. I have nothing more to give nor should I. I do not want a Federal Judgeship from you. I served the USA well when I was a Recon Marine. Thank you for that honor. I worked hard, put myself through each level of education and thought a lot of hard work got to where I am today.

I am nearing the end on my journey. I did not vote for you but you are my President. This year I will make about 1,450K dollars and employ about 22 employees and hope that you will bring an economy that will allow me to employ 112 more this year. America needs more good paying jobs and I will make them. If I am taxed as you said I will be I will not create 110 more jobs and I will just simply wait for the next administration. If your proposed tax hikes happen I will have no incentive to create a new business.

You will not see me with my hands held out standing in any kind of line wanting help with my mortgage. I will not be there myself since I never lived outside the income to debt ratio that most americans are way over on the wrong side of. I made my American Journey one step at a time with a lot of sweat. This year have I already paid 240k in taxes and I see nothing from it personally. So protect what's left of my investment. Bush never did. I voted for him twice. Close the loop holes that get exploited in our tax system. Put America to work. Do not create larger welfare lines. I see personally a lot of Americans that need help every day. Give them a much better education that will allow them to provide for themselves. I am hopeful that you may be it. Please be it. Our country needs it.

So about those 110 jobs you were talking about making...

How much do they pay?

I wonder when people will realise that finite growth is not actually possible - it's the one major flaw with capitalism -

Are you actually really truly worried about these apparent 110 jobs you won't be able to create, or the fact you won't be able to afford another house like the one in your avatar?

I didn't read it all, would you please clean up the text so there's only one instance of your copypasta (yes that's a word).

I understand your side, and agree with capitalism. But, you must understand a couple of things.
you can NOT have a thriving economy, without a thriving middle class. You have it a bit backwards, friend. The rich only exist because of the buying power of the middle class. This war between these classes has been going on, since forever.

We have advanced the middle class more than any country in history. This was done with our blood and guts on the picket line. It was the same type situation way back when, as it is today. The giant company's that our county has produced are simply using the 3rd. world as scabs to bust the U.S. Unions. All those cheep products are only cheep because they do not have to pay those workers a decent wage. These giant corps. are in my view, traitors to the country that built them to what they are today. This is understandable though, as why they would go this route.

I will use an example to qualify that. Schwinn Bicycle Company was started right here in the good ol US of A. they became very successful, as a matter of fact they became the biggest bicycle company in the world. Even though they had a higher paid work force. It was the quality factor of the product that beat out all the competition. Made in the U.S.A. has become synonymous with "the best". Anyway back to my point. Not long ago Schwinn started getting competition in the U.S. market from some pretty decent products that were produced by people making a dollar a day wage. They were forced to move their manufacturing off shore, to compete. This trend has been happening to many U.S. companies, And now our middle class is shrinking. Our manufacturing dominance in the world is also shrinking. The proud U.S. workers are finding for the first time in our history, that their children are looking at a lower standard of living as they have enjoyed.

Taxes alone will NOT fix what is wrong. The so called "Global Economy", that we are buying in to, is what needs to be looked at. Our Government used to do a much better job at trade agreements. As long as we continue to allow un-fair trade, we will continue to see the middle class shrink in this country.

So, to paraphrase porkenbeans, big corporations that provide quality goods and services to Americans at affordable prices by using the labour of people from other countries more willing to do the value adding, are [sic] "traitors".

First I thought, HUH did this guy not recieve policeprotection on his property? SO how can he say he did not see any return on his taxes. Then I started reading. I quickly assumed he must have had some form of public education judging from his lack of coherent writing. So yes, I assume he got nothing to show for his taxes.
Go dude, and persuit your full measure of happiness.

After waking up and looking at the mess of a letter I wrote, I laughed a bit then did some editing.

You got to love Macallan 25 year old single malt scotch.

Gabon on average for the non skilled labor will start $11-14 an hour plus full insurance etc. Skilled labor will start $14-$20 an hour plus full benefits. Lower management $45-65k a year with a few upper managment positions in the $70-90K range. This pay range is much better then the comperable local positions by 30%.

Sirsebster --- stroke one quarterly check for a quarter of a mil for taxes and that one check should cover police/fire protection for my lifetime. For each dollar I made in 2008, the tax bite out of that dollar was 58 cents. That's nut!

I find the initial premise of your letter a little questionable. Anyone who is tied into the markets is going to be negatively impacted in economic downturn, regardless of who is the chief executive of the country. Originally i had assumed you were talking about some type of taxation issue that was going to negatively impact your business, but it seems you are questionably starting an otherwise reasonable enough letter on rather circumstantial footing. Should the markets rebound sometime in the next 100 days, will you be commending the new president for his sagacious leadership? Obviously the burden of taxation on those who provide employment for others is immense. And I wholeheartedly agree with you that there needs to be a lot of effort to manage the tax system so that we are getting full value for the sacrifices Americans have to make. However i am a bit iffy on the proposition (albeit simply a hope -which the last time i checked was pretty allowable) that someone must manufacture the conditions for you to succeed in the future economic picture.

All of us would love for more Americans to find quality employment. No one i believe expects you to hire anymore workers than you are able to afford out of the goodness of your heart, though im sure someone would think it was awfully swell of you of if you did. The point being, you have a business to run, and it took a lot of hard work presumably to put yourself in the enviable position you are in now. Which is why i find the notion that without proper economic policy you will suffer to be a little weak. If you dont hire qualified workers who will allow your company to thrive, you arent going to be competitive. It certainly isnt as if you are going to pass up on a quality employee simply because of an unfavorable policy. Should you do so, you realize the competitive disadvantage you are putting yourself in. Every business has the right to fail if they choose not to engage competitively in their business environment (though we clearly dont like the idea and we try to fight it sometimes when we shouldnt). Im asking you then in a similar way in which you asked the next president to make sure you do the things you need to do in order to succeed in difficult economic times and not hide behind the long overused notion that someone wasnt doing something to assist you, when it wasnt assistance that got you to where you were in the first place.

No, not traitors. Just on the good end of a deal that happens to be bad for the american standard of living.
