Why not make the boats the starting points of the map?

And this would be a good map to play on - xkcd is a great webcomic

thx for the support, but sadly the boats automatically turn back to the neutral number indicated near them, so if anyone started with one they would lose it at the end of the round.

there are no bonuses, at all, they are gone.
i know you prolly looked at the first thread and thoguth so but that was my fault, i made it in a stupid way, where the most updated version is at the end of the post. why? because im an idiot at times  but yeah if you look at the bottom most one you will see that there are no bonuses.

At the moment i think most of the islands are too small and i know making them bigger will probably be a lot of work, but it will make them look nicer and it may also eliminate the need for the army circles. You've got a fair bit of ocean that's just wasting space, i think.

also with army circles, if there are mountains in the way, couldn't you just remove a couple (e.g in facebook)? But don't go crazy. The mountains look nice.

Is the lack of bonuses just because you didn't know what to do with continents? or do you prefer it? It doesn't bother me but if you try and add a few more territories isn't there almost enough for the 2 tiered bonuses like in world 2.1. add maybe some territories back into the viral straights area (perhaps viral straights itself?), add another in the blogipelago, put yahoo games back ( and that one starting with Q), maybe split up the icy north some more, even add your own CC territory etc.
the 2 tiers would work something like this: smaller continents (eg bolgipelago and IRC isles) would be part of the bigger continents that you had earlier (eg Intellectuals)
If you like the idea i think with some moving around of some islands you could make room for a key and it could work.

some other ideas:
myspace 1 & 2 could be myspace and myspace music(obviously the smaller one)

Get rid of the wikipedia project (it wastes space)

let the 2 icy north territories be just yahoo and windows live (perhaps the icy north could be a small continent)

i don't know about a name. In the comic they call it 'Map of Online Communities' so if someone can think of something like that... but better, it would be nice.

tbh i know very little about map making, so this might all be useless but i hope it helps :)

4 continents is too little imo, you need to split it up a little more.

But I love the idea.

ok so this is what i have down on my to do list

  • make the islands bigger, use up some of the ocean if nececary
  • do everything possible to remove army circles
  • split up the bonuses even more so i have a bunch of small ones
  • combine myspace, but make myspace music seperate
  • get rid of the excess wikipedia project,

and im confused as to what you want me to do with the ice north sorry :?

This map seems to be digressing, imo. I love the idea, but now the map looks blander than it did at the start.

And where is Google? how can you have a map with Yahoo, Windows and AOL, but no mention of Google?

I think you would be best off to take xkcd's CONCEPT, but completely re-work the map from scratch. The idea is great, but their original map is just not ideal for CC gameplay. Try making your own map that feels like a CC map and then give the territories "virtual" names.

oh, sorry
atm it looks like you have one territory called 'The Icy North (Yahoo' and another called 'Windows Live)'. I think at least remove the brackets and either stretch the icy north across both territories or get rid of it completely

I suggest you make MySpace 1 into just MySpace, and MySpace 2 into Facebook. Then perhaps call the bonus, "Social Networking" or whatnot ;) .

I think you should just forget about that image and make your own. Make it fit more for a CC map.

i still dont think i could pull that off, i mean the hawaii map was simpler because it exists, this isnt because i feel like im changing the feel of the map entirely especially since i doubt i could re-create something like this.

If you don't think you have the ability to even draw borders in Photoshop, then you're likely to find the development of the map a real struggle. If you can;t get your head around the concept of drawing fictional islands, then why not practice on something like the Hawaii map, or mock up a draft based on the template given for the Central America Mapmaking competition.... the idea with this practice is not not to produce something that will make it into play, but will help you to develop your skills, and teach you some of the things that Photoshop is capable of ;-)

Once you've got the hang of it, come back to this and start from scratch - I guarantee that you will find the process a lot more rewarding that way ;-)
