I think there has been concern that by making it so easy to drop a game folks would do it casually and screw games up - in a tight game I'd hate to see one opponent leave and throw off the delicate balance. It could also be used to leave games intentionally and hand points to friends/multies.
I'd rather see an option that allows all players to mutually agree to end a game in a point-neutral manner, thus bringing an end to the endless, 1000+ army build-up games that nobody wants to lose, but nobody will ever win.

Agreed - sometimes games are over but it takes a day or two to mop up. But we'd need a solution that couldn't be manipulated. (I've been known to just attack neutrals.)
