No, it's OK. Really. You can underline any part of the rules and make that the whole rule. I've been doing that with my 10 commandments, and it's great, 'cos now I get "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery". I'm also coveting my neighbour's ass as we speak, and also making a graven image with no attack of conscience whatsover.

He can still talk to mods through PM! Also, this topic was started by someone who he passed a PM to. If he actually had a request it could be forwarded too.
Seriously though, if DM truly thought he did nothing wrong and that Semigall wanted his number revealed to the world then why did DM edit the post to remove the phone number on his own accord?
Apparently DM was attacking Semigall I know I didn't see it... The whole thing is pretty ridiculous though... It's like: "You may not eat cheerios in front of this person. Even if he gives you permission to eat the cheerios, and even gives you the cheerios himself, you may not eat cheerios in front of him." Hurray for stupid and arbitrary rules that make no sense!

Since when can you access PMs when on a forum ban? This topic was started by an email, genius.

Why is this ridiculous? It is clear. "You may not eat cheerios in front of this person." Period. That's it. Who really wants to eat Cheerios anyways? And who in their right mind would think that posting someone's phone number was okay?
And it still has not been demonstrated that Semigall asked DM to publicly post his phone number. What I've seen indicates that Semigall was only inviting DM to call him - nobody else. Not that it really matters...a rule is a rule.

Mods are supposed to use discretion. It isn't a law; the forum guidelines are guidelines. They're supposed to use good judgement above all else.

1. The whole concept of it's ridiculous. They're his cheerios, he should be able to do what he wishes with them. Any mess is his to clean up, after all. 2. At the time, it wasn't clear. At all. It was written nowhere and it had never been stated. Sure, most of us had seen that sticky in FW saying that you can't use personal info in flames, but this isn't Flame Wars and DM wasn't flaming Semi.

Do you actually have a vested interest in this case, or are you simply defending the decision because you don't like DM? I'm more inclined to believe you are of the latter opinion, in which case you should think about what it would be like if the same thing happened to you?
Honestly, if one of your online friends asked you to post their number on the forum, and given the rules that were in place when DM was posting, would you think anything was wrong with it?

That wasn't my point... My point was that Semi wasn't telling DM to go "jump of a bridge", he was asking for a means to jump off said bridge. There is a difference.

Yeah, of course. Common sense would prevail.
I would respond, privately, "Do it yourself if you want."

I guess I wouldn't know on account of never having been banned
Still, this really doesn't change anything. He could have emailed the PM's to be posted in that case. The point is he carried a message through to the forums and it didn't include any referance to Semigall giving his consent to have his phone number posted.

This is true. There is nothing in the PM that Mustard posted that indicates that it was meant for anyone but him and nobody has asked Semigall his opinion.

There is no evidence that he asked DM to post his phone number. The fact that DM removed it later indicates that DM knew he was doing something wrong. This rule has been standing, if you guys would stop pushing your luck then you wouldn't have problems.
clapper011 wrote:and did you hear this from DM? or directly from semi?
I was simply stating what was wrong with your analogy. I'm not going to call Semigall, Lativa's a long ways away. If anybody would like to though, I'd be happy to give you his number, I've got it in a PM that's still in my inbox.

I know this for a fact, I pmed DM shortly after he made the thread and just before (or after, not sure) editing it out he replied saying (in a nutshell) "You're right, regardless of whether or not I'd get banned, I should edit it out."

It wouldn't be a big deal if it were for posting porn or flaming outside of flame wars or some other rule that actually existed at the time. But as it stands you're just banning for the sake of banning.
In heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine... You got your things, and I've got mine.
no thanks, this just shows that no one has proof that DM was even telling the truth, and he edited his post to try to make it look like he did not know he would get into trouble.... I mean i may not agree with a 1 month ban, but it is not myself that gave it out. And I think a 1 month is still him being luckier then getting a website ban, when he has had allot of warnings and bans for numerous things. The admin has actually gotten more lenient then before. He would be long gone if things were still like they were last year!

The problem Clapper is the same thing is going to happen again for another breaking another "rule" and it's going to keep happening until he's gone.
He posted it on the forum because he was asked to. He took it off because he thought it might be misunderstood as to what he was doing. If you read the guy's post, he basically says "f*ck the internets and all this forum bullshit, call me if you want to talk." Hence why he didn't post it himself. Because he was done with it.
And ever heard of the pot calling the kettle black? Obviously you don't think too highly of DM, but have you considered the implications if he is telling the truth? Or are you just ignoring how ridiculous it makes this ban?
