New England-No Comments???

Postby R0k0v on Thu Nov 20, 2008 1:12 am

So i want to make a New England map because I Live in New England and for such a small place it is very unique. My Goal is not to create a map that looks like New England but one that Capitalizes on Unique Features of New England. The Map will be designed with these questions in mind, "What if there was a war in New England?" and "What features would benefit an army?"

My Basic Outline:

RI as 1 region with a large bonus because it can be attacked from 4 sides
Mass as 3 or 4 continents, it is the heart of NE (Berkshires, Central, Boston Area, Southshore and the Islands)
VT as 3 regions (South, Central, North)
NH as 2 regions (South [Extension of Mass], North [Real NH]0
ME as 2 Regions (South [People], North [Empty Land]
CT as 3 Regions (East, Hartford Area, New York Overflow Area)
The Highways that get you into boston (93,95,90,3) (Make Highway neutral more neuts where traffic problems are BONUS FOR BOSTON SECTION and whole Highways)
Eastern NY Strip from Hudson east (No Region Bonus) (NY City, Albany, Something North, Long Island)
Capitals or Cities (In the case of ME,VT, and NH the Capitals are not the biggest City)

Water Routes:
Long Island-CT (Real Ferry)
Long Island to Block Island (14 mi.)
Province town-Boston (Prevents the cape from being Isolated)
Portland-Boston (Opens Maine up)
Portland-Bar Harbor (Real Ferry)
NY-VT (Lake Champlain)
SouthShore-Marthas Vineyard, Nantucket ( Real Ferry)
Block Island-Point Judith (Real Ferry)

It would be big but very realistic. It Also Incorporates some different strategies.

ALL IDEAS ARE MINE

If you want comments, draft a map. People don't know if you're going anywhere otherwise.

I was thinking a New England map might be cool, but I think a good place to start would be with a map of all the counties:

Okay, the idea is fine, but that map is about a billion too big. You say Vermont has 3 regions? I count 14 counties there. What would be good is dividing Vermont, and all the other states, into their respective regions so that we can get a good visualition of what you envisage. Visual aids help in the Foundry more than anything else :)

if you use all the counties, there would be way too many territories. and plus, a lot of hte counties are oddly and ugly shaped.

I think this "Battle For New England" is a cool idea. It is nice when a map not only shows the territory, but can teach us something at the same time. We DO have double maps of same places - Europe and Europa? Yet some different territories and bonuses make them unique.

Draw up your idea, or find someone who can. Show that you've really got something here!

How about just using the New Hampshire/Vermont counties? That would be about 20 spaces.

I think Vermont,NH, Maine, and Conn. can all be two continents. Mass can be 3/4 (Need a mass resident). And RI, my state can be one bonus that is hard to defend (attack from 4 sides)

Another Idea I thought of was to make it sort of A colonial New England Map. The other idea is to continue as normal but make the colors of continents something unique to that area/state. For Example for Rhode Island, Coffee Syrup, For Maine Lobsters, For Vermont Maple Syrup. For New Hampshire, Skiis. Something along those lines would be nice. I was also contemplating on just focusing in on Rhode Island.
