CC superstitions

Postby jbrettlip on Tue Jul 22, 2008 3:33 pm

Does anyone have any? I will share some of my OCD with you:

I also click the point of the A on the attack button. It doesn't help, but gives me an excuse for a bad roll.

Also, I almost never will go in the first hour of a turn. I like the game to marinate. This works very poorly in speed games.

Anyone else want to help push some the threads weighted down with locks, down to the bottom of GD?

I like to close my eyes on the first attack during a 8 man assasin Doodle Earth Fog of War Freestyle.

I never auto-attack, even if it's almost guaranteed win. I lost like 15 armies on an auto-attack when i was first starting out, and never used it again.

If I have a string of bad rolls I walk away from the computer for the minute before pressing attack again.

Before pressing on in the dying moments of a game where I'm assured a victory,I get up,walk to the kitchen, grab a cigarette(I know it's a filthy habit)a bottle of water, come back stare at the screen till my eyes bleed then press on.

If I 'feel' that my attack may go against me, I wait and keep refreshing. Once the clock shows just less than 59 minutes left, I roll, just once, and then I come out of the game, click on the forum, then click on my games, go back in the game and start the rest of the attack.

I have no idea how this has evolved, but I know it started when I had a terrible run at the end of '07 and went from a Captain to a Private 1st class and never seemed to manage a single good dice roll (it was then I started the No Dice games thread in sugs and bugs). At this time, I found by waiting for a minute after the deployment, the attacks didn't seem to go so badly. The rest of the process....well I don't know, but then I am the man who only ever backs 5/8/11 and 26/29/32 on the roulette table because I think they are luckier for me!

Another 'odd' thing I do, if the attack is vital and close, is stare very intently and grit my teeth when the dice are rolling on the screen in the vain hope that by concentrating on the screen I will, somehow, have an effect on the result....

Lastly, if about to commit to a large assault, I will set my troops, then leave the room, go and make a Pot of English Tea (and biccis, normally hobnobs or some such, natch) set it all up in a particular way on the tray, take it back to my Study, pour the first cup, stir slowly, take the first bite of my bicci then sit down and start the assault. If the assault is particularly long, I always then take a Cigar from the Humidor on my desk, light it slowly (mid assault) and continue.

Oddly, since I started these weird and wonderful procedures, my score has risen from 1047 to its present 2950, so I ain't about to stop them, even though my mathematical and utterly logical brain is screaming out to me that I am completely off my trolley!

Before taking the more important turns in games I like to get a feeling of the dice through other, less significant turns. If they aren't 'sufficient' I will hold off taking certain turns almost indefinitely. When I have to take down large stacks I sometimes shout the desired number of opposing armies I wish to see after each attack, ending with 'DIE!' when 1 or 2 armies are left. When using auto-attack I stick to screaming 'BOOM BOOM BOOM ON YA (my first wife) butt (wacicha was here)' (random Snoop Dogg lyric if I remember correctly), this is usually a long enough sentence for the site to process the dice rolls.

I have a couple silly ones... whenever I'm attacking Brazil on Classic, I whistle or hum the song "Brazil"... when I'm attacking Kazakhstan in the various maps that country appears in, I'll actually sing the Borat Kazakh national anthem (to the tune of the US national anthem, of course).

I scream "No, no, NOOOOOO!!!!" at the screen alot. I only attack at like 40 to one odds on an important move (I'm really bad at deciding which one's are important though). I don't attack neutrals, I find my 52 units are really good at softening them up for my opponents to to finish them off.

Neutrals are the bane of my existence. Avoiding maps with neuts is another thing I do...

Georgerx7di had some good ones- although it involved squatting 3 times and on the third he had to cough to dislodge the golden horseshoe from his arse for others to use.

If I just had a bad roll, I attack by holding down the left mouse button for about a second before I release it.. and if that roll is good then I click as fast as possible the next time (sometimes this makes me advance armies by mistake  )
and of course if I just had a lucky streak using 20 armies or more and am going to try another "large" attack in the same move but in another location of the map (only happens on world 2.1) then I go and smoke half a cigarette and think about alexander the great and how lucky I am for having lived longer than he did..
