Clogs 0 Ruskies 0 HT. Van Der Saar made some good saves already, but Russias defence looks a bit dodgy.

I told you I had a feeling about Hiddink and his boys.

Russia really deserved the win today. They totally over classed Holland.

So far the teams which qualified as second in their groups won the quarter finals. Let's hope this trend continues tomorrow! ;)

Holland without Robben and Van Persie is like a hornless bull. They managed against Romania but romanians were too nervous. When Van Persie showed up, it was too late, Holland looked a broken team. In other words, against Russia Holland lacked width, so much required to unlock the potential of Schneider and VanNisteroy.

Another factor is the team chemistry of the long tournament. Most of the tournaments are won by teams that start slowly, improve, and reach their emotional and physical peak in the semifinal. The physical peak is actually managed!! Holland reached it too early in the tournament :D

It's not often I get to compliment a referee in a game - but last night, I saw the greatest act by a ref to date.
He didn't send the guy off in the 91st. minute. Well he did, but then after a chin wag with his linesman reversed his decision The replay shown just after, clearly showed no foul was committed.
the game may of. been lost if he got it wrong. He didn't and the best team in the first 90, went on to win a game that was rightly theirs.

3 cheers for that ref and his linesman!

actually Pedro, the linesman flagged for the ball being out off play before the foul was committed. had nothing to do with changing his decision. Jim Beglin(dickhead that he is) got it completely tits up and misunderstood why the linesman flagged.

anyway, well played the Russians. Arshavin is a brilliant player, that someone is going to be paying good money for.

Holland did not play to their full potential, a bit like Argentina in the World cup. they battered Serbia 6-1 in the group stage and looked immense. then went all defensive in the knockout stages and went out.

And what this teaches you is that it's okay to commit fouls if you do them when the game is supposed to be dead. Next-time the refs whistle for offside you can kick any player in the fucking face without a warning or card.

Yes there was.

Doesn't matter though as they still would've lost, but the ref wasn't that good or anything.

With all due respect the referee made mistakes on both sides. Didn't you see that clear handsball by the Spanish defender in the box? There was at least a penalty for both sides which was not awarded.

Anyway it was a boring match. I am disappointed to see Italy go out but we didn't do much today. I wish the Spanish best of luck with the Euro and hope they win it now.

Nah - you're wrong mate. The ref got out his yellow card. You don't get a yellow for the ball going out of play. He realised the gravity of sending him off (he was already on a yellow) at such an important part of the game, checked with his linesman and the linesman must of told him that no foul was committed.
Best refereeing I've ever seen at an important tournament.

That's the thing with the world cup - you get all these Refs from places like Peru, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, South Korea & the like - who don't referee decent quality matches and make decisions that are below the standard of the football being played. At least the Euros are being refereed by some half decent / really good refs.

I stand by my original statement. The Ref played a blinder.

In your sick imagination only  Watch the replay again with your glasses on!

Ref showed yellow after linesman raised the flag and Schneider went down. After consulting linesman, the ref cancels the yellow and gives the ball to dutch. Surely, if the ball is ruled dead crossing the line, a corner would be given. Hence, the ref consulted the linesman, on the precise nature of Kolodin's offense. The outcome must have been that either there was no foul but the ball is dutch whomust retain the possession, or the foul was too minor to merit a card. If you can find analysis on the web, please, give a reference...

I have found this

on referee website. It does not clarify completely what happened and disagrees with my analysis :o but still interesting...

No corner, it would've been a goal-kick. Therefore giving the ball to the dutch would be fine. (They made a goal-kick I believe.)

The flag was raised earlier because of the ball being out, not because the linesman saw it was no foul. (I believe the linesman was much further away so that would be silly.) The ref should've immediately stopped the game, at least that would make this whole point moot anyway.

I do think the foul was too minor to merit a card, a caution would've been just enough, I just can't understand why the ref recalled his decision. I mean, it's not like they would've won with the card, but still.

he recalled his decision as the ball (supposedly) went out of play before the foul was committed, therefore anything after the ball going out of play is irrelvent. the ref did not see the linesman had is flag up until after he sent Kollodin off. then he went to his linesman that told him the ball was out of play and so play had stopped before the foul was committed. it does not matter if he deserved a Yellow card or not, because play should not of continued.

So if I smack you in the face after the ref whistles for offside I should get no card?
