Nope, the new updates have nothing to do with the downtime

And yes, we are working on the Grim mafia thread - we know it's there, we just have to figure out how to get it back (trying to rebuild tables to recover this thread from a backup DB was actually one of the things that took the server down for 10 minutes earlier today...so let it not be said that we aren't trying :-p )

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

UPDATE:

Yesterday I deployed a new warning system that will send me a text message if the website slows down, goes down or even if just the database goes down. This will help prevent long downtimes when an unexpected disaster occurs and I'm away from the PC.

Next time CC is down for a long period of time I will extend the round times accordingly *before* bringing the website back up (if possible, of course).

I will also be providing the hosting company with clearer emergency instructions that will help them react quicker and get CC back online sooner in case of disaster.

There are a few forum topics that have gone missing. I'm still working on restoring them from backup but it may take another 24 hours or so...

We're seeing some blank page loads around the forum today .

Lack is working on it as we speak.

This seems to be an issue with only one of the 2 webservers, so we're moving everyone over to a single server temporarily while Lack works on the other.
You may see some slight slowing, but there is plenty of spare capacity right now to handle it.

Op: You seem to have some issues against me because I've pointed out some of your mistakes in the past (I hope that's the reason) or criticized something connected with your line of "work" although I remember when you thanked me by PM when I posted a similar "I had enough of this crap" note in a different place (I know, its a dirty job to fight against the swarms and it's usually better to watch from a safe distance in case the swarms were right ). Back to the point, I understand that nobody likes to be criticized but I think it's time that you GREW UP, stopped being such a sulky cry-baby and realized that sometimes you are wrong and others right (look below).

I came here to demand a better service for everyone, so that we wouldn't have to "pay" (for those who thought I'm after the 7c or smth, get a brain) for SOMEONE's and NOBODY's mistakes. There is no way to force us (players) to be the ones who have to suffer after every mysterious break down. CC is not a.. living creature that is impossible to control. It's code, written by (someone-Lack?), the author controls (I hope) what happens in the game eg. when our turns are missed etc. So my point was, that instead of brining us features that we don't really NEED (like the new ratings/medals/forum) and that we could easily live without for another month or two - the owners would focus more on creating a fair game where players eg. don't miss turns because the server was... OFFLINE and they couldn't access it. On another note, if you come here and don't care about a turn or two then... why do you come here in the first place? Get a life and do something you care about or at least don't fight against those for whom that one turn is actually important.

My call seems to have been heard so all those who were against me and those who watched from a distance, thanks for your contribution ;)

I wrote: So maybe it would be nice to restore the game database then add 24h to all games and THEN put the site online at the approx time when it went down only 24h later.

Thanks lackattack, I hope it's going to work and you can "pause" time for us :)

It seems to me that some people do not understand that life is not perfect. I do understand being upset when things go wrong but to think that there will NEVER EVER be downtime on ANY game site is ludicrous. I am not saying that I was not upset/disappointed when CC was down as I very much enjoy my games in here. It is where I meet my friends and we get together and enjoy some great playtime/downtime. And yes!! I am competitive in my games but I put it in prospective as there really are more important issues then losing a turn or being upset that someone received more time for their turn. However, like they say, "hindsight is 20/20" and yes there are probably ways to prevent what happened from happening again and if that truly is the case I am sure that they are being implemented now. But one thing I am sure of is that unless Lack and all that helped solve the problem are true masochists - me thinks (and this is just my personal opinion) - that they did not plan this nor would they have ignored the issue that caused this, because I do not think anyone would set themselves up for this type of abuse.

So in ending, I just wanted to say thanks to Lack and everyone for taking care of the issue and for keeping us informed as to what happened. Oh and keep up the good work on the features that we apparently can do without =D>

Kudos!!! ;)

UPDATE:

Due to the crash on 15-Jun-2008 and other mishaps, Rank, Games Finished and Games Won have become a bit off for some members. I ran a sitewide update of these statistics and they should now be 100% correct.

Some scores are also a bit off. Stay tuned for a sitewide score correction in the future... :)
