I was wondering why in a few games i took the same round's turn twice - pity of it was the first round's luck was much better overall :(

Either way, you do a great job Lack & co, and it just goes to show sometimes you need to shake things up to make us realise how much value we get from this game.

I missed my turn, but it shows this.

I know about the 12 hours, but that's crazy, so you miss a turn and the other player gets time added.....sometimes I despair of the logic of the powers that be on this site I really do.

Don't try find logic where there is Lack of professionalism.

Thanks for the explanation and for getting the site back up and running.

As for the extra 12 hours, does it really matter that some peeps get extra? They can only do the same amount of "conquering" whether it be 24 or 36 hours. Its not as if they were given extra troops.

Once again well done.... =D> =D>

Well done guys. As far as I'm aware I've had no problems with what's happened. Still, I've got a few victories waiting and I think I'll leave them a few hours - I want to make damned sure I get those points!

Robin, it's alright. i've won a game this morning and got the points. :D

missed about 8 goes, one cost me a game(may of lost anyway), 3 were first goes in escalating so no harm done there and the other midway through the games, can't really tell how much damage that has done.

i'm with Fruitcake though, you miss a go, but the next player gets extra. could you of not give extra a bit earlier so we could of took our goes this morning over the other side of the pond.

The problem is - your turn had already expired when he added the extra - thus you were already stuffed.

If you had not already missed your turn - then you would've got extra.

[sarcasm]Yes, once again spectacular downtime and excellent job, great thanks, well done WOOHOO!! =D> =D> =D>

- When can we have it again? :? [/sarcasm]

They can only do the same amount of "conquering" assuming they get a chance to play and guess what, they WILL because they all have more than 24h to play now. Of course non of this would happen if there was some THINKING done before taking actions. How hard is it to realise that people will miss turns after the site was down for 18h? So maybe it would be nice to restore the game database then add 24h to all games and THEN put the site online at the approx time when it went down only 24h later. That would deserve a clap, but who cares all these m_r_ns will still come and be greatful that the site is up again

... at which point they began to restore the database from a backup which thank-god was taken only about an hour before the site went down.
...

Have you considered the use of database replication in addition to taking backups?

What a bunch of Bull Shit. I for one do not accept the apology. The lack of planning and forsight has most likely cost me two games not to mention the loss of rank and the best CC can do is say sorry. Thanks for nothing.

I too discovered how damn addicted to this game i am as i sat there and tried to log on for what seemed like days!!!

Dammit!!!

Anyhow, interesting to hear what happened. Great that it has been passed on so well unlike most other online communities.

It sounds like the whole situation has been handled extremely well.

Congrats to the team.

Regards

C.

This is not true.

I believe there was a further goof when the fix was applied.

I came back to find several opponents turns close to running out. I did not realize it at first, until I really started checking times. Then I saw 2 turns with less than 1 hour left ... in a couple of cases only a few minutes left. This was AFTER the fix, they had not had time added.

However, when I took my turn, the next player immediately got 36 hours. So, the person who was affected did not get the benefit of the fix and the opponent did.

I don't know that it will matter that much. The extra time does not bother me. I am not that worried about the points in a few games, myself, though if my opponent does, I can understand.

My main reason for posting is just to let you know that there was apparently some mix-up in the "fix"... so that if this happens again, maybe you can see where the error occured.

Sh*t happens folks.

Kudos to lack and CC for getting everything back up and running.

To the very few people that are bitching and moaning about "losing a rank" and whatnot, suck it up. If you're actually good you should be able to gain a rank again in no time. If you can't, you obviously sucked from the start.

I did miss CC yesterday, but I'm happy to have her back!

Just wish to highlight that the site is laggy, it takes me about 5 to 15 seconds to refresh a page currently where usually would be approximately 3 to 5 seconds to do so.

Lack & Co.-

Great job on getting the site back up and running, and for letting us all know what happened. I was perplexed when I couldn't get on, but I had other things to do. My son, however, about had an apoplectic fit!! He's way more addicted (at 9 years old) than I am, and was twitching all day.

I was quite confused by looking at the time stamps and time remaining in games, which sent me to the forums to find out what happened. Your additional 12 hours is not ideal in every game, but I'd imagine by the relatively small number of complainers that it was sufficient for the vast majority of players. I'd imagine it would have been a bit tough to go through all 20,000+ active games one at a time to tweak each one appropriately.

Thanks again! (Now just hurry up and get to my ticket - I've got one game that's a mess! :D )
