Psych

Post by B-Psych101 »

Hi CC members.

I'm conducting an INFORMAL SURVEY about peoples opinions with regard to Psychology. Feel free to ignore.

I will look forward to your responses

B

I ask only to guage, even if inaacuratley, whether opinions of the physcological professions have changed much in the past 30 years, when psychologists were not favourably looked upon.

And to career map accordingly.

you should probably know that surveys taken over the internet are generally useless, unless you want to know how many CC people have seen a psychologist. if you want to know what part of the entire population, this is a bad place to do this. also, people may lie about seeing a psychologist.

only people that are part of cc can answer, so the other groups of people that dont play risk are not included in the survey

I've seen 1 but it was because my dad thought I was anti-social.

I've been to a couple psychologists, and they helped me escape this endless guilt spiral I was in regarding an ex of mine. In my opinion, psychology is a great science.

Psychiatry on the other hand, well all they do is tell you what problems you have.

I have a good poster idea that goes something like this.

Psychiatry, the science of sitting and nodding until the problem becomes clear.

Psychology, the science of sitting and nodding until the solution becomes clear.

First...

Psych was the easiest classes I ever took. So much so that I ended up with a minor in psych. Most of my classes were full of Kinesiology students fresh from their underwater basket weaving class so it was also easy to stay at the top of the curve.

Second...

Yes, I've seen a couple. Once because my parents too thought I was anti-social (they were close...) and once with the ex-wife (we were no longer close...)

Over all i have a favorable opinion I guess.

I am curious why you're asking?

Have never seen one, would like to just toy with their mind, but that's another story.

Do you feel you need the survey results to sway you in any particular desision?

Psychologists

Post by Scarus »

I've gone to psychologists, and marriage counselors a couple of times at different periods in my life, for a couple of visits each time. I've also taken the depositions of people who see them on a regular basis, and even of the psychologists, themselves. In general, I think they serve a valuable service by giving people useful tools to deal with their problems. I do think, however, that people can tend to become very addicted to their services, and that they can become a kind of friend/lover substitute, and actually hold people back.
