I would say Barry Bonds with the Pirates, but I know it happened waaaaay before that.

Nobody seems to be guessing, so I don't know if this may be too hard or what, so I'll give a hint.

It was a shortstop.

I asked my friend. He's big into the NL, and a huge Cubbies fan. I don't know if that's cheating, but I'm going to roll with it anyway.

Ernie Banks is the answer.

I'm going to roll with it too. I think the rules are no using reference books or websites or such, so friends and other relations are acceptable.

All right. Let's try a different sport.

Who did the 1972 Miami Dolphins beat in the AFC Championship game?

Wilt Chamberlain?

If that's right, someone else ask a question. I'm going to be gone for three days.

No. I'll give a hint: He played for the Celtics and is prominently featured in one of the greatest broadcast calls in NBA history.

I was just being a wise-ass, but I'd like half-credit if this leads to a correct answer.

OK, in the spirit of Negro Leaguers integrating into the Major Leagues, give me the first black American Leaguer. Another gimme, but I had a few gimmes go unanswered in the real sports trivia thread, so pardon me.

Just to nitpick, Jackie was the first black in the modern National League (blacks played in the old National League before league douches decided they couldn't anymore in the late 19th century) but I'm looking for the first black in the American League.
