More importantly, yes the Beatles are overrated, in the same way that water is overrated-nope, water cant cure cancer but its still the best thing ever to happen to the human race.
My point: the Beatles have been so hyped so much that inevitably a few of their tracks dont stand up to modern day scrutiny.
But they are certainly the most important band of all time (cultural impact, impact on songwriters, EVERY other band that has recorded) and they HAVE to be included in any sane persons top ten.
Which is why I wish I hadnt forgotten to put them in my list

We DO need to clear something up. Is this a thread about 1) the top 10 BEST bands of all time, or 2) the top 10 favourite bands of all posters? If it's 2, then no one should comment on anyone's opinion. Or as Darvlay said, enjoying things is a very subjective issue. If not THE most subjective of all things human.
If it's 1, how on earth can you decide that? By which factors can anyone decide whether a band is 'good', or 'better' than another one? Is influence the most important? No doubt the Beatles are #1 then (even though some find them boring, but that would bring us back to option nr 2). Originality? There's a huge amount of music created everywhere around the world, no one can tell who's least influenced, since everyone is influenced in some way. Popularity? Then we're back to option 2 again...
IMO, no band (or artist) is to be called better than another one. Everyone likes the music they like (I'm a fan of option 2, if that wasn't clear already

), for whatever reasons. Reading 11 pages of opinions was interesting, but this topic is a bit absurd in itself.
And btw:
- Elvis started in the fifties (not before them),
- Frank Zappa isn't a band but lead one: The Mothers of Invention,
- calling the Beatles an embarrasment is stupid,
- calling everything that's on the radio crap is pretty cheap (what radio do you listen to

?),
- changing your music style by becoming popular doesn't equal 'selling out',
- and though Dave Mustaine tries hard to be bigger than and different from Metallica, their music IS quite alike.
But that's just what I think
