If it's on the radio it means they had the right managers and sucked the right cock. People listen to it because it is on the radio, not because it is any good

EDIT:
And yes, if you like those bands, then fair enough, but i still think they're shit (which is my opinion)

Because the two are never related.

I think its common knowledge that a vast majority of CD sales and charts are based completly on what people are TOLD to purchase. 'HERES THE HOT NEW BAND - BUY THEIR CD'

I was speaking in extremes, though (b/c you were). I might agree with you here... meh.

I'm surprised U2 hasn't made it closer to the top of most lists. Just because Bono dresses like a douche doesn't mean he's not a vocalist second only to Robert Plant himself...

Whatever floats your boat... All I got to say about the Beatles is boring, boring.....

Have you ever really listened to the Beatles, beyond the 5 songs that are on every movie soundtrack? What's the least boring of their albums, in your opinion? The most boring?

In my opinion, "Rubber Soul."

Beatles have 4 albums in the Rolling Stones Magazine top 10.

No one has ever had as much impact on music as them. Sure their music isn't much compared to today's standard but you must compare everything relative to their own time. They didn't have the technology we have now.

You're trying to compare The Ford Model T, the first mass produce car with a Porsche 911. Of course the Porsche can beat the Model T in all aspects, but the Model T had a much greater impact on society than the Porsche did when it came out.

See what I'm getting at?

Almost every existing band has been influenced in one way or another by the Beatles.

not nessarly, or at least comparing in time. While there aren't as many 60's bands I would of liked, there are still some I think are better then the Beatles. I don't personally like them that much and do seem a bit popish. A better 60's band (late 60's) would be Frank Zappa. Also I believe Pink Floyd started around late 60's too.

I put U2, and not because of Bono's voice. More like the Edge's guitar's voice.

Metallica is pretty good, megadeth is less so. They just copy metallica.

More like the other way around, since Dave Mustaine wrote most of their early albums 'till they booted him. Besides, the only good member of metallica is Lars Ulrich, the rest are pansies.

1: Pink Floyd
2: Led Zeppelin
3: AC/DC
4: Nirvana
5: Rolling Stones
6: The Who
7: Black Sabboth
8: Guns 'N Roses
9: Jimi Hendrix
10: Megadeth
11: Queen

(I had to go to eleven, because ten isn't loud enough :) )

And in no order of greatness, how can one judge if it all is good. There should be more, but I don't feel like listing my entire CD collection.

Agreed, i would rather listen to Pink Floyd or U2 anyitme over the Beatles, but my list isn't based on my personal tastes but rather an objective view on how influencial the bands were. I don't really like the Ramones, yet they are 4th on my list.

I rememebr watching Tin Machine on TOTP - the guitarist smeared a biscuit into his fretboard. Rock and roll.

if we;re doign solo artists, then:

His Bobness
David Bowie
Stevie Wonder
Neil Young
Tom Waits

Lynard Skynard
Colin James Band
The Beatles
James Taylor and the Flying Machine
The BB King Band
Robert Johnson Band (had to be mentioned.....every band who has ever recorded any blues owes a debt to Robert Johnson)

Smashing Pumpkins (only those few good albums in the 90s though)
The Smiths

Architecture in Helsinki?!? You are seriously reaching. Their last album was a turd.

And who would ever call Depeche Mode emo? You are showing your age here.

Just realised The Clash should be up there, possibly the Sex Pistols too.

I certainly wouldn't... just something I hear a lot. I can live with showing my age (if that's what you think I'm doing).
