i second this one. i like it in the game but not on the site.
and one more thing, can the dice appear right above the floating bar instead of the top of the screen?? it's easier to press attack move eyes 1 inch above see dice and click attack again.

The first option is noted and will be done - to be honest - I thought of that as I was uploading the latest version!

The second option is a lot trickier - as the Action Form has varying height...

The testing bit sounds like a good plan, with a little bit of luck we can keep people like Optimus Prime out of this thread permanently.

As far as the possible IE support goes - screw that, use a proper browser or no soup/BOB for you! :P Does Opera support Greasemonkey? If not, I'd rather see BOB enabled for those users (at least they have more taste than the average IE user).

Are you volunteering to be a tester then Frop?

Frop, I don't think we need to go here.

Optimus Prime is more than welcome in this thread. He's learnt, as I hope you will, that making it personal achieves nothing.

Anyone giving constructive, relevant, intelligent feedback is welcome here.

Let's stay focussed peeps!!

And love each other with our juicy BOB love. OK?

Ahem ... <wanders off whistling BOB songs>.

So I noticed that my version has the Update Available thing flashing. Is that going to mean it's available to the public and already been semi-tested?? Or does that just mean open script?? (And am I even making sense??) By the way, I think that's a good idea to run a mini-test.

yeti_c wrote:OK Guys...

I've had a thought about upgrades and testing...

And I've come up with a plan... And this only works for 3.6.x +.

OK - I will code up and release BOB in here and on userscripts... so the people that pay attention to this thread can download the new code whenever it's available...

Then, say, a day later - I will upgrade the BOB support script with the new version number(s)...

This will then inform people that there is an upgrade available that's been tested (a bit).

Now this doesn't guarantee that BOB will be tested when it's upgraded... but it will help.

So what I need from you regular commenter guys... is whenever a new BOB is released in here then download it - give it a go and get back to me with feedback... if no feedback - then I will release it to the public...

With a bit of luck this will minimise whingers and maximise good code hitting the masses.

Any Comments?

C.

PS I know a lot of people have the latest 3.6.1 version - as the support script has been downloaded a LOT of times!!! (It will get downloaded on initial load and on action)

i usually load the latest version within an hour of you posting on here - so i will try and give early feedback and those using IE need psychological help not BOB.

Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.

Right now I wouldn't upgrade. Assuming that there is nothing horribly wrong with the version you are using I would stick with it. Especially if it works. If you've already upgraded by the time you read this no problem.

Yeti_c's post a few posts back raises the new testing procedure you refer to and the group still needs to talk that over. This may take several posts to resolve. After that, within the new framework we come up with, it will be clearer to 'casual users' like you when they should (and should not) upgrade.

Hang in there Night Strike :)

In the future it will mean that the latest version has been validated by the group - this time it means that the next version is available.

OK. Good thoughts yeti.

I think this is a cool idea in concept. However I think it needs more structure to work well primarily for the good of the script and secondarily for the good of the "public/casual users".

version numbering
Yeti_c's version numbering is in the form X.Y.Z where ...

X is a major version [1 was stocksr's script, 2 was yeti_c's AJAX compatible version, 3 was to address CC's update to allow 8 player games.]

Y is a new feature version [3.3 was Deferred Armies and Last Bonus added to the stats table, 3.4 was Hide Menu.]

Z is the bug fix version.

Keeping yeti_c's preferred way of working (ie rapid implementation and publishing of new ideas and code) I suggest the following slight modifications:

(i) Append .0 or .1 to this existing format of version number. .1 for stable/fixed/alpha versions and .0 for potentially unstable/broken/beta versions.
This is required because there is no way of knowing from the version number if it is stable/fixed/alpha or not. 3.3.2 and 3.4.5 were the stable/alpha versions of the new feature versions mentioned above.

So 3.4.1, 3.4.2, 3.4.3, 3.4.4 and 3.4.5 would have been published as: 3.4.1.0, 3.4.2.0, 3.4.3.0, 3.4.4.0 and 3.4.5.0 and then 3.4.5.1.

(ii) yeti_c to set up another userscripts.org page. The current page to be used for the beta versions and the new page used for alpha versions.

(iii) BOB to be modified to include the following feature:
Update Notification: alpha | beta | off.

I think it will be clear to all followers of this thread how this feature would work and that it would address all the issues raised by (effectively) getting the whole community to bug/beta test BOB as has been happening recently.

development cycle
Much the same as now. However I do think that it would be useful if we discussed proposed new features and possible implementations of them at greater length in this thread before yeti_c implements them. If the followers of the thread agree that a feature is unnecessary it can save time for yeti_c to do the stuff we all agree we do want ;). For emphasis I am in no way suggesting that yeti_c has to do the will of the thread - see the Cicero's Five Golden Rules of BOB Appreciation in a previous post :)

I'll stop there before I get fast posted.

Hmmm...

3 quick thoughts.

1) More options - there's already too many as is!!
2) Longer version numbers - they're already pretty big!!
3) More userscript pages - I've already got 2 to maintain!!

C.

PS - I would be more willing to listen to the thread (re: suggestions) but apart from modifications to what we already have - where are the new suggestions?

I don't think the site he uses supports that, but I'd be happy to host all the older versions if he still has them around.

It would be a simple matter for you to save all the alpha releases from this point on and host them.

Firstly, even though my reference to Optimus Prime was quite sarcastic I still think it was poor conduct on his part. I've been on the net for quite a few years now and I have never seen an add-on being maintained and updated so frequently.

Secondly, this afternoon I suggested yeti to create a separate usergroup for the Greasemonkey scripters, testers and other regular contributors. We'd be able to test beta releases in a closed group and regular users wouldn't have to be bothered by for instance scripting related banter.

We need at least 10 users though to kick this idea off, so if you're a regular here and feel like streamlining the development of Greasemonkey scripts be sure to make yourself heard.

Coffee

Postby wombat slayer on Wed Jan 16, 2008 4:30 pm

Um, I usually check Conquer Club first thing in the morning. Is there a way for BoB to tell me when my coffee is done brewing?

Oh, and you are doing a fantastic job with this script. Love it!

Depending on your apparatus at least one turn in a speed game should do the trick. :P

Didn't know you could try that, but it didn't work. The link opened in a new page still. A new tab did open, but it showed
Code: Select all
javascript:void(0);
in the URL bar.

Ctrl Click will open (normal) links in a new tab - great tip for google!!!

I'll see if it's possible - but as you can imagine - it's low priority!!

I may have had my complaints a day or so ago, but I want to say that the new 'site-wide' menu hider is easing many pains I have in the tournament forum.

Thanks for that addition, yeti_c. :)
