Yes. I do. I remember being 15, funnily enough. You seem very intelligent, nappy. Well read, you have a brilliant vocabulary, even more so as someone who is bilingual. I'd wager you're much more informed and politically aware than the vast majority of your peers (even if I don't agree whatsoever with the conclusions you bring). On the other hand, and this is both painfully evident in some of your posts and confirmed by the clarification of your age, you suffer from a critical case of judging the world without experiencing it. You deride a state of lobotomised rubber-stamping public servants yet your experience of said 'system' can only be fairly limited. Not that I can particularly talk, as the academic world is one of the most insular and incestuous around. But I DO have friends who are social workers, friends who are teachers, friends who hate social workers and teachers. What teacher would admit they smoke cannabis to you? You would never mix with your teachers on a social level in such a way. Yes. In the real world teachers smoke cannabis, get blind drunk, sleep with students...

I think it's obvious, even to the arrogant 15 year old, that pot-smoking isn't for everyone. Some people react to the high negatively, just like some would from drinking as well. Some find the high very peaceful and relaxing. Either way, it's a choice to be made by the individual not the government, just like abusing tobacco or alcohol or any other substance for that matter.

Well yes you certainly shouldn't smoke too much. I'm doing it once a month or so now, and the most frequent I ever did it was once or twice a week.

I gave it up cos i got bored of it. Until 6 montsh ago I was smoking every other day or so and it wasn't impinging on my life at all.

Tobacco causes lung cancer, heart disease, etc. (You've seen the adverts, I'm sure) and is incredibly addictive. It is equally as harmful as marijuana, which has not been linked to lung cancer or emphysema. Alcohol also has been related to a variety of mental health problems such as depression, schizophrenia, PTSD, anxiety, etc. yet here it is sold by the jug at the variety store.

I am friends with many social dope smokers and cokeheads and many of them (though not all) have "good jobs", whatever the f*ck that means to you, including the standard successful vocations: Doctors and Lawyers. I am a marijuana abuser myself (although I rarely drink alcohol to excess) and work as a Professional Engineer. Is that a "good job"?

Bush, Clinton, and Obama have all met allegations of drug use. I would argue that most actors and musical artists have pretty good jobs too. But that's besides the point.

Here in the states, they teach you that a good job is having a job where you do something that you enjoy and are happy doing, regardless of the pay. In that case, teachers or whomever, who enjoy what they are doing, have some of the best jobs in the world. In my experience, I've found that most pot smokers are very pleased with where they are in life, and they are responsible human beings. Contrary to popular belief, it really isn't very addictive either. Generally one can quit whenever they want. They chose not to because they like it. If or when they get tired of it, they have the ability to quit at will.

Not only that, but there is not a shred of evidence the smoking causes stupidity, or loss of brain cells. This belief is mostly perpetuated by the fact that most of the people who first begin to do weed are the ones who struggle in academics in general. Marijuana is an all natural substance that works with chemicals in your brain (dopamine namely), to create the sensation that you feel. There is nothing corrosive about it - except possibly to your lungs.

Personally, I smoke because it relieves the stress I encounter in academic work, and that it provides some rare moments of peace in my life. I, along with most people generally don't apply their "revelations" while under the influence to their daily lives. Although you might associate your "leftist" times with your pot smoking, the two are coincidental. I have, without a doubt, met an equal number of conservative pot smokers in my experience than I have to liberal ones (that is if they have a political preference). They do it because they enjoy it. As much as you'd like to believe it Norse, not all socialists are pot smoking hippies, and visa-versa. It just goes to show the ignorance you have in life.

Well it does cause short-term memoryloss or whatever it is. Generally, when you're high and shortly thereafter you can't really study or learn.

Actually, Snorri, that's not true... What studies show is that if you study stoned, you need to take the test or write the report stoned. I know some people that find it easier to focus, study, and learn while high...

I think people generally feel that way because it makes them less focused and more prone to daydream, but that is a generalization, not 100% accurate.
