Without inflation, there is almost no chance of anyone becoming field marshal. But, maybe a way to deal with inflation if it becomes an issue is that every once and awhile all players would lose 10% of there rank. Or just remember that certain ranks don't quite mean what they used to.

Dice are random, and if they aren't, then they aren't for everyone. My suggestion, don't attack something you don't have about twice the units of and don't press the attack button when you have less than 4 units.
