Is killing a dog Murder?

I think I heard if you kill a police dog, you will be charged with Murder, like the dog is a person. Is this correct? If it is, do you agree with it? And apparently running from a police dog that is trained to bite you and assault you is resisting arrest...

It's not murder. Murder is a version of homicide which can only be committed against a person (not an animal).
There are crimes against police dogs that are crimes against police humans (never thought I'd use the phrase "police humans").

More US common law than my opinion, although I did go to law school and pass the bar exam.
Here you go (from wikipedia).
In common law jurisdictions, murder has two elements or parts:
1.the act (actus reus) of killing a person
2.the state of mind (mens rea) of intentional, purposeful, malicious, premeditated, and/or wanton.
Also, note that murder is considered homicide. Homicide is:
Homicide (Latin homicidium, homo human being + caedere to cut, kill) refers to the act of killing another human being.[1] (also from wikipedia).
Hope that provides some explanation.

Like TheGreekdog said not murder but just as killing a cop usually leads to more punishment than killing a regular civilian, it would make sense that killing a police dog would come with more punishment than killing some random family's pet dog. As for running from the police dog=resisting arrest that's kind of obvious sense it's probably coming after you because it's a trained dog used to chase down and subdue criminal suspects....of course if this is a police dog that was less than adequately trained and decided to chase after you because it wants to eat your cheeseburger than that's a completely different scenario...

It's not murder if you don't get caught.

Just because your date is a dog, you can't murder her.

Interesting. A police dog is at the very least probably considered an "agent of the police", which would mean stiffer penalties for any crime against it. I do know they give police dogs human names like Dave instead of Bub.

You're assuming that police follow normal lines of logic and/or law. They (and the judges who kowtow to them) can make up any fooking thing they want to.
Example: If you go to jail and are bonded out (bailed out) the bond condition is that you will show up for court. I recently went to jail for a night, and when my wife bailed me out i found that everyone who gets bonded out has to piss test. If you fail the piss test or refuse it (which i did) then part of your bond condition is that you have to piss test once a month (30 dollars), and go to "drug court" once a month to review the findings of your piss test. You have to have 3 clean piss tests or you start over. I passed 2, than said f*ck this shit, so now whether or not i show up in court on July 31, i am in violation of my bond.
If you were to kill a police dog here in St. Tammany Parish, i think they would simply reinstate the age old custom of crucifiction.

I am pretty sure that it is not murder for killing it, BUT if you hit it it is assaulting an officer

Over here I think they can charge you with 'wasting police time' if you do that.

Yeah, I think that's right. They are considered "officers" which I find ridiculous.

Actually it makes sense. Here if you hit a car with your fist, it can be considered an assault against a person sitting in the car.

Really? Even if you're not trying to hit the person?

Correct.
Assault is the
the threat of violence caused by an immediate show of force.

So I guess if they hit the car, they are making a threat of imminent violence against the driver. I didn't thnk that would be codified.

yep, typical law school class example is the case of hitting a piece of paper in another person's hand -- assault.
