I am battling to install greasemonkey

I have tried installing greasemonkey a few times and it shows in the add-ons as enabled yet if i click tools it is not there. also the monkey icon on the bottom left of the screen is not there. I have tried uninstalling firefox and re installing it this too hasn't helped any ideas? i am running Firefox 3.0.10?
