Can you ask to gang up on a player

I am in a flat rate, classic map game that has been going on for a couple weeks.
One player is getting much stronger and now holds Europe, Asia and Australia.
I posted to the chat area suggesting that we gang up on him.
I am a relative newbie. Is such a posting against the rules? Even if it is permitted, is it bad manners?

IN THE GAME CHAT IS THE ONLY PLACE TO DO IT...
sekrit PMs or strategizing outside of the game with other players isn't allowed.

if you have no reason to gang up on a person (they are not winning by far) then i think its a bit cheap, however it isnt against the rules

What you did isn't against the rules. Some people really freak out if you suggest an alliance against them. I've been foed for that. What I've learned from my forum peers is that if someone is seriously ahead, good players will just unofficially decide to go after the person who's winning. This is not always the case with newer players.

Europe, Asia, and Australia? Get an alliance sorted as-soon-as possible, lol.

it is not against the rules... but its kinda lame. i mean, obviously the strongest player should be taken down, but i think everyone knows it. they're not gonna just let him rock them anyways...
if it was relatively even though, i'd call you a coward.

forming alliances is allowed in the rules, as long as it is done openly in the game chat, but you won't make many friends by doing it.
The most acceptable form would be to openly request an alliance with a single other player, rather than asking everyone to gang up on one...and yes, whitetazn is correct most players are going to realize this is happening and react accordingly anyway.

no, i didn't. i just figured people weren't dumb enough to give someone a game.
