Q: Canada?

Just curious since I never really got this one. Being a European and all, you never really learn those domestic things outside of Europe. Seen that there're a lot of Canadians on CC with the flag and everything. But what is Canada's status? Have you been granted statehood or are you more like Puerto Rico and those islands in the Pacific, i.e. some kind of territory without the right to vote in the real elections? And how come you got a separate flag? (Guess it's a Wales/England/Scotland thing, but maybe there's a story behind it?)

Its a prison colony for the US, much like Australia and Britain.

I once heard a Canadian comic say (to a Brit audience):

"You think you hate Americans - try living next door to them!
...And you think it's bad living so close to the French - we've got them at home!"

Are you serious? Because if you really wanted to know without flaming or pissing off people or sounding ignorant you could have checked out one of the thousands of websites that could have easily answered that question for you. That and common sense...

some lawyers in a kitchen claimed they were at least partly independent..
in 1982 or something like that?
The queen certainly lets the colony have their own law, and even if she´s the head of state, canada is not part of the united kingdom.

Now, it is merely part of the commonwealth. Similar to the states. It has its own laws, but Queenie has the final say.

I bought some wallpaper that was very expensive. it hasn't fallen off the wall yet (Only mid way through papering the wall) and it was made in Canada. if this wallpaper stays on the wall, then Canada and all Canadians are ok by me.

I can't discriminate against the french ones, but if the wallpaper does fall of the wall, I'll bet my bottom dollar that it was a Frog who fucked up applying the paste to the paper. :D (pre pasted wallpaper btw)

Yes Pedronicus, I believe they prefer Frog Canadians to just Frogs. See because Frog Canadian women actually shave their arm pits, so it's like the next level up from Frog.

People outside of Canada are jealous.

And they have every right (and reason) to be.

Canada is a large landfill for American's trash.

Up until a few years ago Michigan was receiving Toronto's trash by the truck load. Literally hundreds of trucks a day! In 2005 14% of all trash deposited in Michigan landfills was Canadian. Fortunately that's stopping in 2010 due to Michigan legislation. So where does that put Michigan? I'm afraid to ask.

BTW Canada is a very nice place. Glad its my neighbor as far as neighbors go. Fairly quiet, lots of trees, plenty of moose, great fishing, usually minds their own business, and has really, really good beer. Neighbors with good beer is a positive thing.

I'm glad an American corrected that misinformed statement by jnd94. We do get some of America's airborne pollution, though. But I'm pretty sure we are the cleaner of the two countries.

It seems there are two types of Americans, with regard to their feelings of Canada. Those that have been here - they usually are very fond of Canada. And those that have not been here - they usually don't have a lot of good things to say. So whose opinion holds more merit?

Didn't the Queen's appointee, actually do something a couple of months ago? Dissolve Parliament or kick out a PM? I remember some sort of Constitutional Crisis.

You gotta hand it to Canada. What other country has the US tried and failed to invade on three separate occasions?
