Dude, find a YouTube of the song and post the link here. I don't know what song you're talking about, but definitely want to hear the beat rock.

Also, don't the Black Eyed Peas suck now? Like, ever since they added Fergie?

I tend to think of them as always sucking, and that it was just some of their songs which had the good fortune not to.

Corporate radio programming is absurd... travel anywhere in the USA
and hear the same crappy play list.

I live in a part of the world where the FM dial is absolutely jam packed with stations. once you reach the middle of North London, a lot of the pirates loose signal strength.
East London is where it's at baby. The only good thing to come out of the concrete jungle built during the sixties was all them ugly tower blocks and the radio masts that have been fitted ever since.

Things you don't know:

1 - The "DJ" isn't playing the song. 99% of radio stations in the world use computerized playout systems like these: Link1 - Link2). The song was dubbed into the system once, and everyone at the radio station plays that version. CD's left radio stations a long time ago. The fade is pre-determined by the Program or Music Director and it is tagged as such. The DJ has no say in the matter.

2 - The "DJ" most likely isn't even there at all. On music stations, unless you live in a major market (NY, LA, London, Dallas, etc) or are listening during mornings or afternoon drive, the "DJ" you hear is most likely "voicetracked". This the process of pre-recording the jock talk hours or days earlier. In the US, the vast majority of radio stations are un-staffed during the late night hours for example. Every tried to call a request line late at night and got no answer or voice mail? There ya go.

I would agree that the vast majority of radio stations do suck (if you're looking for new and different music to listen to).

I happen to like rock (including, but not limited to, grunge, metal and punk). There is one excellent station in Philadelphia (93.3 WMMR) and one relatively new, but pretty good station (104.5). These stations satisfy my need.

Additionally WMMR has the best morning show I've ever heard - Preston & Steve.

I just moved from Columbus, which has just one rock station, and nearly all they play is classic rock. I'm in Atlanta now, and have a couple to choose from, and though they stick mostly to the standard stuff, at least it's new standard stuff. Maybe I'll be jaded in a few years, but, for now, I'm digging it.

Anyhow, when I get tired of music stations, I'm usually on NPR news, which is always a good decision.

I'm guessing you're talking about 100.5, 97.1 and maybe 92.9 and 96.1. They're all decent stations but none of them are really great. 100.5 played some music that you don't normally here when you listen to the radio when it first started I guess a little over a year ago now but has since fallen back into more standard classic rock stuff. 97.1 is a decent, at times heavily overrated station, 92.9 will play ocassionally try to be innovative and play some obscure song you don't hear on the radio, problem is the song usually isn't very good. And 96.1 is just new rock and while you'll find the ocassional gem on it, you'll have a lot of shit to dig through first.

Also where are you living in Atlanta?

Been doing Classical Music for awhile, and out here, we get local news and BBC news. So it all works.

Yeah, I usually hit up 96.1. The morning show isn't terrible either, which is another upgrade from Columbus. Like I said, they're all an upgrade really; 102.9 is so fucking boring. A question I have: didn't there used to be one around here called 99X or something like that? Where did that one go?

I'm in an apartment in Decatur. I'm not really familiar with the area yet, but the major landmarks I know are the CDC, about 20 minutes away in morning traffic, and Emery is somewhere around here. I'm right on N Druid Hills, if you're familiar with 85. There's also a Mexican restaurant around here with some bitching salsa. I don't know if that narrows it down any.
