Choose your Australian map!

Post by KEYOGI »

I know this isn't exactly fair, but for me there's no other way for me to decide on whether to continue making my map of Australia or not. While both maps are of Australia, they both attempt to capture different aspects of the country.

Show your support for either or both.

I think that the answer is obvious and jas_in_orbit is not the winner.

I suggested adding NZ for more territories.

Only 40 countries on the first one
Only 34 Countries on the second one, you both need more countries!
The second one looks better though :

I'd just like to thank everyone for their support, thanks to this poll I've continued development of the map and I feel it's nearing completion.

The way I see it, there's plenty of room for both maps to be available. The more maps the better, and besides, there's more than one USA/America map.

I'll make sure I develop a completely unique idea next time though.

The map was actaully made by gonzo, it was put on hold due to a new career and move interstate. He has a new map which he has worked on taking into consideration all the comments made previously. Hopefully he will be able to put the new version up so you can all veiw it.

both need improving

the top one is not very good - states being split??

the other one is better - rockhampton to pilbara link is not good - the rest is along the right lines

how about an AUSSIE GROG MAP

eg. Queensland territores become
XXXX
XXXX Gold
Eumundi Bitter
Eumundi Premium
Bundbaerg Rum
Bundaberg Black

Could use the labels for territories

Something different...

I've considered adding NZ, also Oceania, but it would mean dramatically reducing the size of the Australia continent, making it hard to identify and label some of the Aussie territories.

i think the first one looks much better. it doesn't take any studying to see what touches what. it has a gorgeous background and nice lively colors. the second one does not. the usa map is split and there arent too many complaints on that. splitting is not a bad idea. on the second map i cant see where adelaide ends and mt gambier begins. i cant understand why the border for the territories in the second one, in new south wales is darker than the others, is that blocking riverina from attacking broken hill. ????? second is too plain, and the first one needs more shape, but if i chose one to play id play the first one. first one needs at least 2 more countries. i actually find it pretty rude that someone started another one, even if they could've done better. instead of making another one you could of given suggestions to the first one to make it to where you like it. so i dont understand why we have some competition going on over who gets theres on cc. its not just about accuracy, its about playability, and the first is much better, ignore the splits

It's not about competition, it's about choice. There's plenty of room for both maps. The first is more representative of the country 200 years ago, the second is more modern.

Go read the thread for the first map, I posted to see if it would be rude. 1 reply and it was a no. I'm not responsible for people not expressing their opinion. I waited over a week before starting my map.

Maybe you need to adjust your monitor, there is clearly a river system running through there with bridges connecting territoies within their own continent bounderies. Where there is no bridge, you can't cross. Same goes for the mountain range. Have a look at a number of other maps on the site, they all use the same principle.

Now, I would've been quite happy to not spend my time making my version of the Australia map if I didn't feel it was needed. The first map has been in development for 7 months, mine for less than a week.

I'm sorry I've offended some people, but there is also plenty of support for a newer/alternative map which solves some of the issues that people had with the first. There is room for both on the site, why the constant complaining.

both west australias look similar and have 3 borders. one gives bonus of 3 other of 5. I think, bonus-wise i like second one better. First is colorful though :)

Also, the adeiline? name has to be moved up a notch, and some of the bordres are not clear from first glance. However, i think the second map has more potential and more vagueness right now.

Voted both! cause i wouldn't mind playing either. If one is played really little, we can take it off. I think¿?

oh well. good job so far

I dont understand what is wrong with having both maps. Each has its group of followers & each has people that dont like it. I like keyogi's map way better, but I still voted for both. I also dont see how its rude that he has made a second map. There are multiple USA maps, but no one complains about them. Just let both maps be completed & put up for people to play. The more maps the better. I dont think the 2 people making the aussie maps should join forces & make 1. The maps are different enough for it to be fine there are 2. Also, I think it would be too hard for them to make compromises because it seems they dont like each others map.
And just out of intrest? Why are people against having 2 aussie maps??? If only 1 is completed people wont be happy. Least with both, there is more chance of making more people happy.

The details of the second one + the colors of the first one = would be awesome!

Seriously, adjust your monitor... there's nothing wrong with them. They're very clear and obvious on my crappy 15" CRT.

The river system blocks Victoria being attacked from NSW except for Gippsland and is the natural border between the two states. Go look up a decent map of Australia, the Murray-Darling River system is the biggest in Australia, it's our Missisippi.

I think this thread has served it's purpose. I've continued the creation of the Australia map to a point where I'm happy with it, taking into account lots of suggestions and advice.

I'd like to thank everyone for their votes and input. I really think both versions of the Australia maps need to be put up as this threads intention wasn't intended to steal jas's thunder. Both maps offer different gameplay and do their job of representing the country in different ways.

If people have any more comments to make, I think they should be directed at the appropriate threads.
