Multi accounts on the same IP but Different People?

This is something that needs to be brought up. It is quite simple, there ARE people out there with multis and such. There are also the majority of us honest people who play because we love to play. If you check and we are on the same IP, even though we are different people, you ban us. My dad wants to play, and I play already. I think we need a spot where you can apply for multi accounts for different people. For example, my dad could have an account, I could have an account, we could NOT interact or play games together, but we could both play. It would stop abuse because of the NO INTERACTION rule. If you catch us in the same game, we both get banned off the face of the earth (so to speak). Otherwise, my dad won't be able to play. I know a game called TribalWars that has such a rule. It works perfectly, and they have cut down on complaints AND multis. If you would like to check out Tribal Wars to look at the rule, it is located at tribalwars.net NOT tribalwars.com.

I hope this can come about so our family members can play also.

That is an interesting rule, but what about computer labs, for example, where people share the same IP but don't necessarily know each other too well.

Did you read the FAQ?

Can more than one person play from the same computer?

The short answer is yes. Although it is generally a good idea to not play in a singles game with people from the same computer and if you do it would be preferable to play in doubles/triples games. This will help avoid accusations of cheating.

Would it be possible to have an automatic IP address check when you attempt to join a game, and if that IP is already in the game you are denied from joining?

Seems like it would eliminate much of the problem.

yeah, but what if friends wanted to join a doubles game on the same computer? well, i guess you'd have to wait for them to go home. yeah, i like that idea. but would the block get u banned, or would it just not let u join? and what about those who play on multiple computers?

You DO NOT get banned for multi because you play from the same computer - you get banned for multi when one person has more than one account and typically is caught because he is CHEATING in a singles game.

There are many many people, mainly couples, that play from the same computer, no problem. If they are honest, I have no problem playing them in singles games, together, either - it is all up to you to identify yourselves as such and play honorably, cause we WILL be watching!! ;o)

PS - P-G...who was banned for simply playing from the same computer???

I, like KoolBak, am wondering if you can support this statement with names and games they played together that didn't look like cheating, but they were accused of cheating anyway.

My family has four players whose computers sit behind a router, so we all play with the same IP address and there has been no problem. I asked the moderators if we should avoid playing in the same singles game and wicked replied that it wouldn't be a problem as long as we announced in the game chat that we were in the same family and either were/were not planning on having an alliance.

I did read the FAQ. The problem is I also looked at the Cheating and Abuse Reports. It seems people were condemened for slightly similar names, similar play times, and same IP. My dad and I have similar names often, in Tribal Wars he is baldingbear and I am bearkibble. We also tend to often play one after the other. I play right before I give him the computer, he plays right when he gets on. We obviously share an IP. And to solve the computer lab problem, have people write down where they most commonly play from. EX. When you register give them the following question:

Where do you play from? (Check all that apply.)

_Home
_Work
_School (Computer Lab)
_School (Other)
_Other (Write in space below.)

_________________________________

I have seen that done in many sites. It seems to work. Also, like many have suggested as well as the mods, announce in chat when you are two people from the same computer in the same game. I just believe that this will help innocent people who just seem reluctant to directly attack people they know from being banned. The thing is also that some people DO leave borders relatively undefended if the surrounding people are at 1 or 2 already. This has been taken as multis a few times.

K, A Kizzle and Conner98359. First it was Me and A, but they realized we were friends, and then A and Conner were banned because most of the time only one friend would remember to play if they were at the other's house.

It would have to be thought over, but it would assure that a lot of people are not busted for something they didn't do. I would not risk letting my dad on the site, because I like this site so much.

Along the lines of filling out the form, but maybe easier to automate: What if family members or friends who frequently (or always) play from the same IP register as such. This wouldn't help the computer lab people who don't know each other well, but the rest of us could basically say up front when we join "I'll always have the same IP as Jack and Jill because we use the same computer (or router, in my case)". Then a record would exist that could be checked for admitted friends/family members in case a multi accusation comes up.

Hmmmm. The only game I could find where A KIZZLE and Conner98359 played together was a three way singles with P Gizzle. The chat certainly appears to be a normal 3-way conversation among friends. If Lack based his decision just on the IP's, then maybe this one should be looked at again.

As I posted before, wicked told me that multiple accounts from the same computer was not enough to get my family busted - that it would actually take playing together in a game and looking like you were cheating.

I too am a family member that plays on the same IP address as my son. We tend to avoid singles games together.

What if there was a message in the game chat whenever two or more people in the same game were using the same IP address. Then it would always be out in the open and it would be up to the people to explain.

How do I do that? I've been accused twice now of being a multi with someone who lives in the UK. There the IP address made it obvious we weren't.

yeah, we were just playing for fun, just like we wanted too. that's a big reason we joined cc. we thought that since we cant constantly be at each other's houses, then we could play online together

The problem is that a lot of accounts I have went over have been proven guilty OR innocent on evidence that is very shady. And a lot of verdicts appear to be educated guesses. To be quite certain, I believe you can never be 100% sure someone is a multi unless they come out and say it. Same thing with secret alliances. It can appear so, but it is never 100%. I am looking for a way to make people a little more sure. I also reccomend a case review fourm, for people like me who look through the cheating and abuse fourm because we are concerned. I have found many a case that should be reopened and reviewed. I think there should be a place for members to post such cases, and if the mods think they have enough chance of being wrong on that case, they can review the case. I'm not saying you would review every case submitted, (Think of all the work for lack!) just the ones that a brief skim would tell you that the evidence was flimsy at best. Also, I believe mods should post the reasons if the verdict is guilty. However, both things would take time to start and then carry out. I just believe we should definitly have a place to notify mods in advance of our IP sharing.

Regarding the reasoning behind our verdicts, much of the evidence is confidential because it contains personal information or trade secrets that cheaters could exploit.

That is why you must have blind faith in your moderators :wink:

I used to have total blind faith until I saw the above case, but now, I confess, I am at least a little bit nervous.

(These two guys were found guilty of being a multi after playing only one singles game together ... AND, everyone in that particular singles game was perfectly happy with the way things went.)

I don't want or expect you to give away your secrets. However, if you can't address the particulars in the above case in any way, can you at least tell me what I can do to protect myself and my family? If we never play singles together, can you assure us we will never be found guilty of being a multi?
