The Cosby Show and I Love Lucy definitely deserve mentions at least.

If this is the influence of Obama, at least pick

Uh, no. I was a fan of the show long before I ever heard of Obama.

Interesting choice
I don't think most spin-offs are successful but that was an exception

Frasier... Oh ya! I had forgotten all about that one
And why isn't The Simpsons on this list?

Think the Simpsons beat out the Flintstones for longest animated sitcom

, but The Jetsons rocked too

If we're allowed animation, I say
King of the Hill beats all those.

well for some reason I think the humor in King of the Hill is less obvious than the other mentioned animated sitcoms, but I still like it

Also in the list for consideration should be 3rd Rock from the Sun and Soap

Yes, it's more understated - but I'm a Brit, which is prolly why it appeals to me more. Not that I'd put the others down.

Wow, I came in this thread to push all the youngsters to check out Soap and TWO people beat me to it. THe antics of Chester, Jessica, Benson, Burt and the others was hysterical, but it just didn't have the longevity to be the GREATEST.
In that sense I have to go with the Simpsons.
Other great shows people may not have seen: Welcome Back Kotter, and All in the Family. Go get the Dvd's NOW.

I've heard that it's quite funny, but I personally never watched it before...
Is anyone here a fan of "Friends"?

30 Rock, if it counts.
King of the Hill is great up until this last season (glad it is the last) when it's become pretty much just a self parody.
