I don't know, but both doing it and not doing it are socialist. Which is evil and the anti-christ and doesn't have a birth-certificate, which explains why it kills enterprise on the daily.

Doesn't that present some serious problems when you need to take dexterity and fortitude checks?

Not at all, as a basically melee class the Paladin has decent dexterity (hit rate beats raw damage 90% of the time, especially with enchanted weapons that have on-strike effects), and the slower progress of fortitude increase is negligible.
