they were a great band at one time, if you can forget they stole every idea they ever had from the beatles (including their kids names)... however, they can still rock, saw them recently, and they were as good as the first time i saw them with 200 people in a small club and liam wanted to fight us all... oasis... shouldn't this be moved?-0

I rather liked having threads about the groups of new maps in general discussion. they didn't generally get a lot of posts but it good to see what people said about them and the votes of which of the 3 or 5 they liked best. don't see those threads anymore.

I made the 4 hour drive to Vancouver to see them years ago and they cancelled at the last minute. Yep, there was a riot. Not as big a riot as when Guns and Roses tried the same thing however...

Guys, this thread is about the Oasis map, not the band. If you want to talk about the band, head to Off-topics. Thanks.

um, that is the point. this thread should have been moved to the foundry and does not belong in the GD. but since the mods are mega slow right now, nobody expects any sort of swift or rational actions. the most we can hope for is, is for owen to get another ridiculous ban. soooo, why don't you move this thread where it belongs mr. night strike, instead of trying to help a topic that belongs in the foundry, flourish in the gd? oh, and the bpb kick ass!!!

If it turned into a discussion about strategy, it could be put into the strategy forum... at the moment it's looking more like it's off-topics / borderline foundry flaming...

Just a warning, the coordinates for the Large version are a complete mess around deserts 55-66. Stick to using the small version of Oasis for a day or two until I get everything worked out. Small works perfectly.

For real...shouldn't we have noticed there is a new map called "Oasis" and that this thread is located in "general discussion"?

This was meant to be a discussion of strategy. But the thought never occurred to me to post in that subforum. Honestly, why does that place even exist? It's even more dead than Announcements!
But I digress. On to Oasis strategy:
I learned very quickly on my first game that taking an Oasis first or second round is an absolute must. Right now, I see a lot of people (mostly me) taking a large, early lead by taking one Oasis the first round, then a second the second round, and so on, and having three or even four by the time somebody else gets their first.
That's the only concrete tactic so far I've found. One observation is that the objective is by far the easiest to get than on any other map. In fact, with the wide separation between players, I have yet to see a game end through something other than elimination. Finally, we have an objective that isn't forced, and yet has taken the place of elimination as the preferred path to winning.

Very fun map. I enjoy it. Then agai, im biased, im 7-3

.
I found that in unlim games the best strat is to att the other players on your first turn and then fort your arimies to one place so you can get an oasis on the next turn.
Also, i find that breaking up other's oasises(sp?) is obviously a good tactic.
Thanks to wca for a great map!

Agree!!
A small Oasis is so easy to take in the 1st round because only 1 neutral army in Dessert around it. Maybe 2 or 3 neutral armies are better.
Another problem is with freestyle like in this
Game 3648653, I won only because I made the turn in last round before blue.

I don't think you have to take an oasis on the first turn. In fact sometimes it's better to wait. especially if you can't reinforce any armies to that oasis. Sometimes I think it's better to stack up and wait for someone else to take the oasis and then steal it from them. I also think that the upper most oasis is awesome. If you can get one on the top right or the top left then get that middle one right away since people wont think to get there and if you can keep it one turn then you're waaaay ahead of everyone else. That works even better in FoG games. Ofcourse it also sucks if someone else gets it.

I disagree. lets say I take an oasis and have 2 or 3 men on it on the first turn. there are obviously several people around me, all capable of taking the oasis back from me. however, if they think (this is a premise hard to achieve at times), they will see that if they take my oasis, then someone else will do the same to them easily.
In the games I have seen, everyone tries to get their own oasis, rather than compete over one, because that is just a waste of troops while others grow stronger. I have won games because people who were deploying a whole lot fought over one measly oasis, while I just attacked the neutral ones.

What do you do in this scenario.
I was the 2nd strongest player on the map. Someone had 3 oasis with from 5, 11, 11 troops on that oasis. I had 19 and 17. BUt a third party decided to go after me and took one of mine.
Now the strongest guys has 5 oasis, i have 1, and the two other guys have 1 each. One of them is coming at me for another oasis.
I don't think i have much of a chance now - but is there any hope?
