Front Page Image Suggestion

Concise description:

Replace the map on the homepage with something that looks better...say World 2.1.

Specifics:

see above

This will improve the following aspects of the site:

won't look as bad.
new players will not scratch their heads and wonder what the heck is going on.

i almost made this suggestion yesterday, the classic map as it is now, will not bring new members here.

Agreed, if i saw a map like that on the homepage it would most certainly not encourage me to sign up and make an account.

I think World 2.1 would be a better map to display until we get a new classic map.

More to the point, the sizzle text on the homepage is appalling, not to mention the fact that it directly references a certain CC competitor.

Came to this forum to suggest just this. The mods might also consider making it an animation, and have it switch maps every 5 seconds, or will this cause page load problems?

what happened...all i play is classic...now you changed the map to numbers..it sucks....i love CC been playing everyday for at least a year..now i am about to say good bye...change the map!!! please

Well the new map *is* crap, so it needs to be replaced as well as removed from the home page!

I think we just need an entire homepage revamp, ive always thought the front page was FAR lacking what the rest of the site has. Get someone with some web-page designing talent and make something sleek and sexy to attract newcomers 8-)

EDIT: oh yes and if not, definately switch the map for now

What about obtaining the rights....Conquer Club is in essence a spin off of the other game. Maybe we need to get approval to use the board and terminology and pass the cost onto users, either as an across the board increase or as a specific cost to play the original board.

The efforts to change the terminology detracts from the game.

I like the rotating map idea. There are 100+ now, have a different one up every day. Show the players new and old what is out there and available. Also a little benefit for the map makers who put their time and energy into the maps creation to see their map on the Homepage...

How about simply renaming the territories on a classic map as it was before? For instance, leave 4 territs on OZ, but have it named Sydney, Canberra and blah blah. Or on SA replace Peru with Chile, Venezuela with Colombia etc... Leave the number and bonuses same, just make some graphical adjustments. I can hardly believe that anyone has copyright on the drawing of the world :lol:

so I am quite sure that no one will be able to sue you...

how about rather than rotating dayly - which would mean a newcomer to the site would only see on e map, it rotates every 5-10 seconds, so it is like an animation of all the maps

or every hour is good

but i think a day isnt really worth it

You have to consider that the average web user only looks at any one page for 10 seconds tops. So if any animation, it'd have to be faster than 10 seconds, I would suggest 3.

As for the original idea, YES TO REMOVING THE CRAPPY CLASSIC.

Same here. Is there anyway we can show this is simple, easy to implement, and should be done immediately?

Anyway, I like the idea of a rotating picture, but since we would have to work out the details, I say just switch to world 2.1 or something similar for now.

open letter to the uber dudes running the site... might i suggest changing the image on the opening page of CC, to something like the World 2.0 or Canada or USSR map? i realize the Turkey Day Massacre Map is not going to be the "Classic" map, but it is a very poor representation of the maps/game play on the site. i recently checked out another similar site that was mentioned in a thread, and the map they had on their opening page was just horrible. then i stopped and realized that the other site had a much better looking map on it's opening page than CC currently has. might i suggest, for the sake of web traffic poking in, that you change the map image on the front page? i know if that was the initial map i saw when jbrettlip told me to come join and play some games with him, i would have never registered (not a bad thing in some peoples minds!! twill, i'm looking at you)... that is all. just a simple suggestion that may not have been considered... thank you.-0
