okay, first of all, dig on the synopsis of his new (forthcoming) picture:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1152836/
awesome. and the cast looks pretty good too. although, actors are cattle. all that matters are the writer and director.
plus, holy shit, here's a video game to be excited about:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0803002/
yeah, yeah. i know. video games based on movies almost always suck (chronicles of riddick was good). but this is based on a movie from 1995. and if they got DeNiro and Pacino to do voicework for the game, that indicates it's gonna be good.
finally, i leave you with a little tip. visit this site, and watch the old Miami Vice episodes available. the first season wasn't bad. kind of cheesy, but no worse than low budget action movies. plus, the first several episodes -- the ones in which Michael Mann was most involved -- serve as something of a template for the highly underrated 2006 film Miami Vice.
and early on, there's an episode where an assassin kills the Lieutenant, that opens the door for him to be replaced by Edward James Olmos... and that assassin has one disguise in particular that looks quite a bit like the silver fox, played by Tom Cruise, in Collateral.
i've been watching an episode every couple days, lately, and maybe it's nostalgia, but i love that show. i love the theme song. i love the shitty acting (especially by Philip Michael Thomas). i love the ridiculous pastels. and i love the Ferrari they had in season 1. the testarossa wasn't nearly as cool -- too much of an advert. oh, and the montages. gotta love the montages with whatever song they were trying to push at the time.
seriously, if you haven't seen the movie Miami Vice yet, do so. it's pretty much entirely awesome. or, watch some of the old episodes. the Pilot was great.

Gangster movies? Maybe, if I don't have to pay for it.
Also, Thomas Mann is the man.
