That was from Blitz's top 5 thread. Since it has so many pages of people playing it, it can't be bad now, can it?

that's also very relative. the number of games played are influenced by the age of the map.

for example
Age of Realms: Might has 186 pages games in 40 days

USA has 427 pages games in 731 days

if you judge simply by total numbers of games then USA would be more than twice better than AoR:Might but when you look at games per day you'll find that AoM:Might has an average of 465 games each day while USA has just 58 games daily.

makes you wonder huh?

Cool seeing those reviews...

And why the heck does this thread have more off topic discussion about map popularity than web reviews of CC??

Well, I should resist the urge, but DiM's distortion of the stats (implying AoM is 8x more popular than USA) was just too much for me... you see, games were created at a much slower pace in the old days, so to get a real glimpse of map popularity you should look at current active games... if you do you'll see that the USA map has more current games, of course some of those games were started before AoM:Might existed, so all things considered, it close enough for me to call them about equal.

actually the active games method has a big flaw. it doesn't take into consideration the average duration of a game as well as the average number of players in each game.

for example world2.1 games take longer to finish and they are usually played by at least 4-6 players. so in the time such a game takes to finish on doodle earth there will be probably 10 times more games since that's a small and fast map.
if i make a map with 1000 terits it's enough to get 5 pages of games cause they'll stay active for 6 months but in that time doodle will probably get 1000 pages of finished games even if judging by active the 1000 terit map will seem more popular.

that's why i think games per day is the best description of a map's popularity.
