BRITISH ISLES Sucks

Post by Nobunaga »

... Yes, it's terrible, quite, quite bad.

... I made this map back when CC had few members and only a handful of maps. At the time it was relatively good, I think, but with the new series of improved maps I'm seeing now... My map is an embarassment.

... There was a time, several months ago, folks were talking about revamping the thing but I put the brakes on it because a friend asked me to. Well, whoever redid that Middle East map could do a wonderful job with the British Isles, I think.

... I'm not big on pride. What do you guys think (I'm not asking if you think my map sucks, I'm asking what you think about my map being made a work of art).

Well the guy (Keyogi) who did the Middle East revamp is no longer here. But I am sure you could get someone else to do it. We had a competition for the last revamp.

... I would make an attempt myself if I had the time, but I do not.

... Middle East style ... or perhaps something that looks like the actual Risk board style. That would be way cool, imho.

The key question though is whether the territories can be renamed and moved around a little (without affecting gameplay). This is the thing that is most irritating about this map.

its a very playable map, no shame in it. a graphic revamp would be nice but the key components of a good map are there. its like super mario 3 vs super mario sunshine.
had i been wise, i would have seen that her simplicity cost her a fortune

... I agree that it's very playable with territories unchanged. It just looks bad, in my opinion.

... To be honest, I just slapped it together looking at old maps, not thinking too much about "playability"... and to my amazement, it worked out rather well.

I remember a number of people posting in the map thread...about errors and inaccurate names...

Why in god's name do you want the British Isles map to look like the Middle East map...two totally different regions of the globe....let's keep the variety happening here, i say! :)

I dont mind the graphics as they are and playability is very good. Accuracy is about all i would want to change, many of your counties are in good places. Its only that they have the wrong names.

Also, mabye giving it a more feudal brittish theme would be interesting, having the coats of arms of the four countries somwhare on it and losing the swan.

I would have loved to do it but unfortunatly i do not have the graphics capability

It's not the prettiest map on CC, but it's one of my favorites. Beautify it if you want, but please don't change the gameplay!

I like the map, would look nicer with a bit of prettification, but please don't make it middle east style, canada style, or circus maximus style.

Gmil is going to do the revamp.

... I've received more than a few PMs over the last 2 years (maybe a year and half?), folks telling me what's wrong with my map. So let it be fixed, eh.

I am currently reearching the last continent to ensure the same gameplay stays but with correct boarder and names. South England is making a hard job of it.

however expect the 1st draft tomorrow at the latest. :D

Personally I have hated all of the revamps so far. We should be proud of our old maps and how far we have come since then. For historical purposes and a sense of connection to the past I wish all these revamps would not have happened.

I love the progress we have made as a site but why are we trying to remake the past? Sure we have some old maps that don't have the glitter and the wow factor. But they were easier to see and read before the revamps and as a consequence were better maps in my opinion. I don't need glitter in my maps, I need a map that is easy to read and decipher. I don't need them filled with extraneous detail and cool graphics that distract from game play. I love the old maps, warts and all. Let's put our effort into future maps.

Who wants to tear down this:

To build this?:

Can't we have both?

Why destroy the old to make way for the new? Leave the old maps and make the new maps, there is enough room for both.
