CCC MASTERS: DIVISION 4 [CHAMPION: rallison]

Post by Optimus Prime »

The Champion is: rallison

"The hard work performed in the Map Foundry has paid off magnificently for CairnsWK. He has collected several years Premium memberships as a reward for the maps he has contributed to the site in the last few months. Under the guise of the Latin slogan - Non Nobis Solum (Not For Ourselves Alone), he has given over 4 of these premium memberships to be awarded to the Division Winners of a large new Tournament - Cairns Coral Coast Master.

CAIRNS CORAL COAST MASTERS TOURNAMENT

***PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP IS NOT REQUIRED TO ENTER THIS TOURNAMENT***

Tournament Start Date: November 25th, 2007

Grand Prize: 1-year premium membership

Cartography Assistant cairnswk is sponsoring this tournament as he has created many maps for the site. All players who join this tournament must be willing to join their first game with 48 hours of the scheduled starting date. All non-premium players will be sent a reminder 1 week prior to the start of the tournament. Due to the large size of this tournament (180 players) there will be a 1 month sign up period. If the tournament fills early, some games may be started early, but non-premium players will not be required to join until November 25th.

This tournament will feature 180 players with a score of 1400 and higher at the time of sign-up (there are three other divisions in this tournament, each with a different thread. Please find the division that fits your score to sign up) as they navigate the treacherous ways of 4 maps created by cairnswk himself. They are: Valley of the Kings, Battle for Australia, Pearl Harbor, and Battle of Actium.

Settings
Each of the 4 rounds in this tournament will feature a different map and different settings. They are as follows:

First Round: Valley of the Kings (3 player games) No Cards, Chained Fortifications.
Second Round: Battle for Australia (4-player games) Escalating Cards, Unlimited Fortifications.
Third Round: Pearl Harbor (5-player games) Flat Rate Cards, Unlimited Fortifications.
Final Round: Battle of Actium (3-player game) No Cards, Adjacent Fortifications.

Gameplay
All games will be filled with players randomly selected using a list randomizer. The winner of each game is the only one to advance to the next round. You will not have a chance to redeem yourself, it is a do-or-die situation, so play for the win. All players will be expected to use fair play in their games so as to make this an enjoyable tournament for all involved.

Important Notes

1. All players are expected to report to their games within 48 hours of having a PM sent to them. If they do not join they will be in danger of being replaced with a reserve player. Reminders WILL NOT be sent as this is such a large tournament.

2. If you have another player who is currently on your ignore list that is assigned to a game with you, you will be asked to remove them from your ignore list for the duration of that game. If you are not willing to do this then you will be asked to remove yourself from the competition.

3. By signing up you are saying you wish to play. Your score will be checked when you sign up, and if you happen to have posted in the wrong thread we'll move you over to the proper one and notify you by PM.

I don't think that games settings sounds very appealing to the strong players. 3 and 4 players games are usually too small, and are very affected by who moves first. And unlimited fortifications are quite disappointing too...

It was either that or find far more than 180 players. ;) Looks like you super-high rankers are going to have to decide how badly you want to take the chance to win a free year of premium. :)

I'll stay away then ;)

But that is good idea. And I am not talking about free membership. I am talking about more tournaments, which have rating limitation on entry. Not to be sound too elitist, but usually top 500 players would not join a tournament with players of rating 1000. One lost game -50 points and one won game +8. You need to have around 87,5% win rate in that case.

Amen. A tourney is how I got to the position I'm in (just over 2000). When I started that tourney (Iron Man II) I was over 2700 (or close to it). I didn't do too bad, came in third, BUT I was the highest ranking player in the tourney. I didn't realize how bad for the score it was going to be. I'm not complaining, the tourney was a lot of fun and I want to join more, but I don't since I don't want to be a private again either ;) This has nothing to do with this tourney and it sounds like a lot of fun, but it will probably be hard to find those over 2000 who will want to risk it. In summary (lol) looks like a fun tourney, but lets have some people make more rank appropritae tourneys too :)

I understand where you guys are coming from, but I hate to break it to you....I've had plenty of players with scores well over 2000 that have played in my tournaments that required far more of a game commitment than this. :)

Heck yeah I'm in.

And to the high ranks: you can't spare 50 points and think it's worth more to you than 20 bucks??? That's sad.
