And Bradbury is boring.

The greatest sci-fi authors were Asimov, Heinlein, and Clarke.

Arguments could be made for H.G. Wells.

I also wouldn't argue too strenously if someone nominated Frank Herbert or even Vonnegut.

Or my favourite, Poul Anderson.

But Bradbury? YAWN!

I find Bradbury to have his own unique style. “The Halloween Tree” is not exactly hard sci-fi, but it has a philosophical feel, with many metaphors about people. The style is indeed different from Asimov or Clarke, but I think that is what makes Bradbury memorable. That's Not My Neighbor

I agree with Duk on this point; I did not find Bradbury great. I much prefer Asimov.

Asimov was much more prolific and wrote on MANY subjects: Chemistry, Physics, and even the Bible. (I have read and in my possession many of his books, mostly about Science, not sci-fi.) I do have his His Foundation Trilogy, which is considered a classic. I have also read LOTS about and by most of the other authors he cited; I have not read Dune by Herbert. At the moment, I am reading (among some 4 other books) an anthology of sci-fi short stories.
Isaac Asimov (/ˈæzɪmɒv/ AZ-im-ov;[c] c. January 2, 1920[a] – April 6, 1992) was an American writer and professor of biochemistry at Boston University. During his lifetime, Asimov was considered one of the "Big Three" science fiction writers, along with Robert A. Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke.[2] A prolific writer, he wrote or edited more than 500 books. He also wrote an estimated 90,000 letters and postcards.[d] Best known for his hard science fiction, Asimov also wrote mysteries and fantasy, as well as popular science and other non-fiction.

Asimov's most famous work is the Foundation series,[3] the first three books of which won the one-time Hugo Award for "Best All-Time Series" in 1966.[4] His other major series are the Galactic Empire series and the Robot series. The Galactic Empire novels are set in the much earlier history of the same fictional universe as the Foundation series.

I believe that's some kind of Indian spice?

Reading is a passion. I've read over 3000 books in the sci-fi/fantasy genre.

Kindle unlimited is the best thing since sliced bread!

I got a Kindle for my travels this summers. IT is GREAT..! I am trying to finish about 3 books that I started in the physical "hard" copy version. At the moment, I am reading two books on Kindle, one being the Art of War by Sun Tzu, which is in one of my Kindle books. It is the
https://www.google.com/books/edition/50 ... frontcover

I did not know that these are the ACTUAL books; I thought this was only a synopsis of the 50 books when I downloaded that book. I NOW have PLENTY to read. :D

I doubt that I will read them all before "that day." And btw: there is a Volume 2, TOO....LoL. :D

And I see in Volume 2 that I have already read TWO of those books. Only 98 to go, including War and Peace by Tolstoy...!

I have read some of my 101 syfy short stories book (anthology) too, also on Kindle. These tend to be more modern, and the authors are not of the Asimov, Bradbury, Clarke (ABC), Heinlein, and Herbert generation.

Is anyone WATCHING any good Sci-Fi or Syfy anywhere?

What show and what network or streaming service?

The new Star Trek series on Paramount plus looks a BIT interesting.

Oh yeah that makes sense, it was the same everywhere else in the US but in Southwest Detroit it was SiFi because you remember it that way.

I mean it's not like people occasionally uncover old billboards from 1992 on the I75 near the I95 in detroit and then post pictures of it (hint: it says Sci Fi)

It's probably much more likely that the whole world is just wrong or misremembering than it is you are experience some form of cognitive bias.

So you don't like Ice Truckers?

I miss when that channel played horrible b movies but it was entertaining to watch. And old re runs. And Fact or Fiction.

I agree that you are VERY likely correct on this Mookie. And good job on the post on the evolution of the Logo.

I have to say that I cannot see anything clearly on that old advertising board. I do not suppose that you found a clearer photo, Mookie; NOT likely, I am sure.

I did see this:
Cablevision in late 1992--- what number was the SciFi Channel?
Having a little mental block on this one network, even though I remember most of the other number channels (i.e., MTV was 29, Nick was 33, TCM was 47, Cartoon Network was 32, etc). I still remember the debut of this channel in September of '92 when I was 26. SyFy, as it is called now, celebrated its first day of programming with a primetime showing of the 1977 Star Wars film. This was before Mr. Lucas made his little additions and changes to the movie when technology allowed him to tweak things.
