LLWS Standings by David Ball, on FlickrThere will be 12 teams total -- 6 will play in a United States side and 6 will play on the International side.
Teams will be divided into pods of three...
United States
Pod A -- Northwest, Great Lakes, New England
Pod B -- West, Southeast, Mid-Atlantic
International
Pod A -- Canada, Europe/Africa, Australia
Pod B -- Caribbean, Japan, Mexico
You will face each of the other teams in your Pod, along with one team from the other pod for a total of three round-robin games. The winner of each pod advances to the semifinals. In case of a tie, the first tiebreaker will be head-to-head result. If there is a three-way tie, then total run differential will be the decider.
Winners of the one-game semifinal advance to the LLWS single game championship.
So a total of 5 games possible.
The United States winner will face the International winner in one final championship game to decide the tournament winner.
Game play --
Little League games go 6 innings -- if tied extra innings will be played until a winner is decided. If extra innings are used, the 7th inning is normal, but the 8th and beyond teams start with a runner at 2nd base.
The batting order will go 9 spots deep with the bottom spot in the lineup being a doubles match.
The first time through the order will be played on the visitors team settings.
The second time through the order will be played on the home team's settings.
The third time through the lineup will be played on a rotation of the geographical maps.
Additional at-bats will be played on random map.
Settings for geographical and random maps will be escalating, chained, foggy.
Results of each at-bat are listed in the chart below ... win quickly to have a more impactful at-bat.
The game will be scored like a regular baseball game, string hits together and score runs.
Three outs and we are onto the next inning.
A 10-run mercy rule is also in play ... If one team builds a 10-run lead after four innings are complete then the game will be called.
