So with the other hoot nanny of politics and the ever feverish following of Harris' nut sack and Trumps small hands, can we talk sports at least? Anyone? Hallo?!

MONTREAL -- Sam Montembeault stopped all 48 shots he faced for the Montreal Canadiens in a 1-0 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the season opener for each team at Bell Centre on Wednesday.
“Those are the kind of situations you want to be in,” Montembeault said. “Last year, it happened a few times, we were leading by a goal and then we lost it and they came back. So this year I think we did a good job. We didn’t force anything in the third (period), we just played the game that was in front of us, and I think the guys did a great job.”

Big 9ers guy. But i do like watching the Lions, especially last year. The Commanders though! What a fuckin weird start to the season.mookiemcgee wrote:f*ck THE COWBOYS, PACKERS, AND CHIEFS!DirtyDishSoap wrote:So with the other hoot nanny of politics and the ever feverish following of Harris' nut sack and Trumps small hands, can we talk sports at least? Outside of the 49ers being the home team, hard not to root for the lions this year. Love seeing teams that have historically struggled kill it in the draft for a few years and put together a team that could have a nice half decade+ run of making the playoffs every year. Seeing Baker do well is nice, though idk where they are going to play their home games in the near future.

https://apnews.com/article/conference-r ... b23a1a06edThe Pac-12 was ripped apart and redistributed by its competitors, regardless of geography. The stunning demolition, set in motion a year earlier, was accelerated when the Pac-12 couldn’t secure a media rights deal to match its competitors.

The end of the Pac-12 ushered in the super conference era and laid bare the bottom line of college sports.
“I don’t know what the institutions that are involved will say was the motivation, but it was money in every case,” former Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said.
https://www.sportico.com/leagues/footba ... 234795113/The NFL's 32 teams generated an estimated $20.5 billion in revenue last year, 72% higher than MLB. The Premier League only has 20 teams, but its $8 billion for the 2022-23 season is more akin to the NHL than American football. NBA teams made roughly $12 billion during their most recent season.
On a personal note, there is little I watch live on TV these days, other than Sports and News. My Favorite Sports to watch is College Football, then a tie among College (NCAA) Men's Basketball, the NBA, and the NHL. My NBA watching is dictated by the performace of my favorite Team, and the same for the NHL. I loved NHL until the past few years, and that has declined as my interest in the NBA increased. Other than the Olympics, I rarely watch other Sports. And I rarely watch regular season for Basketball and NHL; the Playoffs is what counts for me. (And I rarely watch MLB, baseball.)MLB might be America’s pastime, and the Premier League has the biggest global reach of any sports league. But when it comes to making money, the NFL is the undisputed king, as it kicks off its 105th season next week.
(...)
All of these leagues earn money the same way, from gate receipts, sponsorships, concessions, merchandise, luxury suites and media contracts. But the scale of the revenue streams varies wildly in the different sports.
The average NFL franchise is worth $5.93 billion, 15% ahead of last year in Sportico’s NFL team valuations. The NFL’s salary cap—$225 million last year—is a boon to NFL owners, but the driving force of the league’s economics and its revenue is the leaguewide media deals.
The current crop of contracts is worth $12 billion a year on average, and owners are expected to opt out of the deals following the 2029 season after seeing how much ESPN, NBC and Amazon just committed to the NBA. NFL games represented 93 of the 100 most-watched TV broadcasts in 2023, but NBC and Amazon are now paying significantly more for their rights to NBA games than NFL games, while ESPN’s cost is similar for both leagues on a yearly basis.
I dunno if i can root for the Pats, would love to see them both lose. I guess at 1-5 I can root for pats to win so they don't finish last and get 1st pick in the draft.DirtyDishSoap wrote:In other news, hoping the Jets lose. It'd be hilarious.
